Winter Series Stableford - Indian Spring CC (East)

Indian Springs Country Club - East Course, Boynton Beach, FL

November 20-21, 2023

Boynton Beach, FLA. – After battling the weather on day one of the Winter Series Stableford at Indian Spring (East), three deserving champions were crowned. Ryan Prokay, Rich Buckner and Luc Guilbault each won the Mid-Amateur, Senior, and Super-Senior divisions respectively.

In this very different format of play during this tournament, players are not ranked based off of their scores, they are ranked based off of a points system, giving out points depending on what score you make on a hole. Players get eight points for an albatross, six points for an eagle, four points for a birdie, two for a par, and one for a bogey. Every other score higher gets 0.

Mid-Amateur

In the Mid-Amateur Division, former Winter Series Points Champion Ryan Prokay, rattled off 42 points in round one to take a one-point lead over Andrew Sharp and Jacob Richard. Prokay’s four birdies, 10 pars and four bogeys were enough to give him the one-point lead.

With 18 holes to play, and two players within one point, anybody could bring home the victory. After a first round with 35 points and a front nine on the second day with 18, Mark Allen knew he needed a flawless back nine to give Prokay a run for his money. With a bogey free back nine, Allen carded 24 points. However, it was not enough to take over Prokay, as he eventually wound up winning by five.

Senior

In the Senior Division, Steve Horner took the early lead by five, totaling 48 points. Six birdies and no bogeys gave him a tie for the round of the tournament. In second was Rich Buckner with 43 points, looking for a second round comeback.

While Buckner was looking for a comeback, that is exactly what he got. Needing 37 points to get the job done, Buckner’s went back and forth with Horner all day, eventually taking a point lead on the final hole of their day.

Super-Senior

Just like in the Senior Division, we found a come from behind victory. Steve Sponder totaled 44 points in round one, giving him a three-point lead over Joe Shaktman. However, neither one of these players would be the ones walking away with a win.

Luc Guilbault had a very similar round to Senior division champion, with six birdies and no bogeys. In his first Winter Series appearance this year, Guilbault picks up the victory in dramatic come from behind fashion over Shaktman, who finished three points behind.
