Parent-Child Championship

ChampionsGate Golf Resort, Orange County National (Crooked Cat) & Falcon's Fire GC - Orlando, FL

ORLANDO, Fla. – Over 500 competitors participated in this year’s Parent-Child Championship, playing across five golf courses in Orlando and competing in seven different age divisions. The 9-hole Championship was held at ChampionsGate Country Club, while the remaining divisions were spread between ChampionsGate Golf Resort, Orange County National, and Falcon’s Fire Golf Course. 

Seven duos were crowned Champions: Wade Oney Jr / Wade Oney III (33 & Over), Doug Stroup / Jackson Stroup (26-32),  Steven Ross / Justin Ross (18-25), Bart Abstein / Barton Abstein (17 & Under), David Perritt II / Britton Stevens (10-12), Trent Erb / Benjamin Erb (8-9), and Tim Collins / Houston Collins (6-7). 

33 & Over Division

Wade and Wade I Oney raised the trophy in the 33 and Over Division with a 4-under 140 after one playoff hole. The duo shot matching 70’s with eight total birdies. In second place was Trey and Bobby Lundquist with a 4-under 140, while Kyle and Greg Martin finished third with a 2-under 142.

26-32 Division

Jackson and Doug Stroup were named Champions of the (26-32) Division after shooting an impressive 11-under 133. Their scorecard was flooded with birdies and one eagle to take a 1-stroke lead over the field. Finishing close behind in second place were Sean and Earl Lanoue shooting rounds of 69-65 to finish 10-under. Third place was occupied by Chase and Chad Ibbotson who shot a 9-under 135.

18-25 Division

Justin and Steven Ross came out on top with an 11-under 133. The duo shot rounds of 69-64, highlighted by 12 birdies and one eagle. The duo birdied their last three holes to secure the victory. Jake and Vicki Goetze-Ackerman and Alex and Jon Veneziano finished in a tie for third place both with a 10-under 134.

17 & Under Division

Barton and Bart Abstein used a 7-under 137 to get a 2-stroke lead above the field and win their respective division. The duo carded 10 birdies between the two days. Finishing in second place was Jiheon and Good Oh with a 5-under 139, and in third place was Cooper and Ron Crump with a 3-under 141. 

The nine-hole parent-child tournament used a Stableford scoring method, the three divisions, (6-7), (8-9), and (10-12), competed in nine holes each day.

10-12 Division

David Perritt and Britton Stevens used an impressive 60 points to bring home the hardware in the (10-12) Division with rounds of 32-28 (6-under). The pair saw seven birdies across the two days to secure their title as Champions. Brett and Nolan Blondell finished in second place with 57 points, while Anthony and Leonard Bietto finished in third with 53 points. 

8-9 Division

Trent and Benjamin Erb captured the (8-9) Division with 53 total points. The duo shot rounds of 35-38 to finish one stroke ahead of the field. Ty and Mackenzie Capps finished in second place with 52 points, and in third were Jeff and Greta Golden with 51 total points.  

6-7 Division

Tim and Houston Collins were victorious in the (6-7) Division after rounds of 41-35 to earn them 50 total points. Thomas and Connor Wharton finished second place with 49 total points, while Logan and Ryder Blondell took third place with 42 total points.

Tournament Summary

Format:  36 holes of gross Modified Alternate Shot

Eligibility  Parent/Child Teams (defined below)

  • At least one player must be an FSGA member

Handicap:  None

Entry Fee:  $300

Championship Format

  • 36 holes of gross Modified Alternate Shot
  • Teams will be placed into Age Divisions as of the child's age on the first day of the championship
  • Each age division champion will be the team with the lowest 36-hole total score
    • Age Divisions will be flighted for gift certificates for round two by round one scores
  • Modified Alternate Shot

    • Both players hit their tee shots
    • Next, both players hit the second shot with their partner's ball
    • After each ball has been played twice, the team chooses which ball it will use to complete the hole hitting alternate shots into the hole
  • Max score of 10 is in effect

Eligibility

  • Any grandparent, parent, step-parent, child or grandchild of which at least one must be a member of the FSGA
  • There is no maximum age limit for grandparent, parent or child
  • A child under the age of 13 can move up to play in the Regular Division (at the Committees discretion), but a child age 13 or older may not play in the 9-hole Division
  • Professionals may play; however, the team is not eligible for trophies or prizes
  • Grandparents may play with grandchildren
  • Father in-laws and mother in-laws may play with their son in-law or daughter in-law
  • Only two-person teams are permitted

Entry Fee

  • $300 per team
  • Late entries will be accepted subject to a $10 late entry fee should the entrant gain acceptance into the field

  • 8:00 AM shotgun start BOTH DAYS

The Courses

  • ChampionsGate Golf Club - International & National Courses will both continue to be in the 2024 rotation. The newly renovated International Course, is a beautifully styled coastal links course, which was remodeled to feel more like it's original design. The National Course is set up for players of all skill levels, as it offers scenic views, clever doglegs, and well maintained greens year round. Both courses being designed by Greg Norman, will provide golfers with a fun and great experience at the course.
  • Orange County National - Crooked Cat Course will remain in the course rotation for 2024. The course offers elevation changes, rolling fairways and large greens.  The course will offfer different visuals and will test your game in different ways along with providing a fun and inviting experience.
  • Falcon's Fire Golf Club has entered into the 2024 rotation. The Rees Jones masterpiece, located conveniently between Disney World and Orlando International Airport is a steady stop on any Orlando Golf Trip. The course offers challenging approachs with generous landing zones off the tee.

Entry Priority

  • Entries will be accepted based upon the order of receipt
  • Entries received after their respective age division is full (52 teams each) or after the close of entries, will be placed on an alternates list
    • Alternates will be contacted in the order of receipt of entry, if and when, a spot becomes available

Age Divisions & 2024 Daily Course Rotation

  • Each Age Division will play two 18-hole golf courses over two days. Age Divisions will change course rotation annually so that everyone will have a chance to play all courses over the years.
  • Age Divisions are based on the child's age as of the first day of the Championship.
    • Child 17 & Younger - ChampionsGate (International to National) 
    • Child 18-25 - Orange County National (Crooked Cat) to Falcon's Fire GC 
    • Child 26-32 - Falcon's Fire GC to Orange County National (Crooked Cat)
    • Child 33 & Older  - ChampionsGate (National to International)

The FSGA reserves the right to adjust the age divisions and field sizes in order to equally distribute the number of teams on each golf course

  • ChampionsGate Golf Club - International & National Courses - available at the discounted rate of $50 plus tax per player one week prior to the event, limited to after 10:00 AM on a space available basis. Please call 407-787-4653 to reserve a tee time.

  • Orange County National - Crooked Cat Course - available at the discounted rate of $55 plus tax per player one week prior to the event and after 10:00 AM the weekend prior on a space available basis. Please call 407-656-2626 to reserve a tee time.

  • Falcon's Fire Golf Club - available at the discounted rate of $60 plus tax per player one week priot to the event and after 12:00 PM on weekends on a space available basis. Please call 407-239-5445 to reserve a tee time. 

Carts

  • Carts are included for all competitive rounds. Players are responsible for practice round fees.
  • Spectator carts may be rented on the day of the competition, based on availability on a first-come first-served basis, at all courses for $25 plus tax per day per cart.

  • Course Setup is based on competitors age as of the first day of the Championship
    • Men 18-49 - 6,500 - 6,700 yards
    • Boys 15-17 & Men 50-64 - 6,100 - 6,300 yards
    • Boys 14 & Younger and Men 65 & Over - 5,400 - 5,500 yards
    • Women 15 - 49 - 5,400 - 5,500 yards
    • Girls 14 & Younger and Women 50 & Over -  4,800 - 5,000 yards
  • Field Size - 208 teams (416 players)
