WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Two teams were crowned Super-Senior Four-Ball champions on Tuesday at The Country Club of Winter Haven. Randy Elliott and David Anthony came out on top in the Championship Division, while Pete McDade and Bob Casamento were victorious in the 70 & Over Division.

Championship

Elliot and Anthony fired a final-round 62 to earn the five-shot victory in the Championship Division at 14-under 130. They sat three shots back of the leaders after a 4-under 68 in Monday’s first round.

The duo started the final round strong, playing Nos. 5-9 at 6 under with Elliot carding an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole. Elliot and Anthony made the turn at 5 under for the day and continued their strong play on the back side. They birdied three of the first five holes on the back side and finished the final round with a tournament-low 62 to secure the victory.

The teams of Guy Lay / Jeff Cullman and Bill Barnes / Owen Joyner finished tied for second at 9-under 135. Lay and Cullman used rounds of 68-67 to earn a share of second place, while Barnes and Joyner put together rounds of 70-65.

70 & Over

McDade and Casamento took home a commanding win in the 70 & Over Division, securing the 10-shot victory with a 15-under 129 for the championship. The team took a three-shot lead after the first round with a 7-under 65 on Monday.

They got off to a strong start in the final round with Casamento going birdie-eagle on the fourth and fifth. McDade and Casamento made the turn at 3 under for the day. The duo kept it rolling on the back nine with McDade carding an eagle and two birdies. The secured the victory with a final-round 64, the low round in the division.

The teams of Bobby Lundquist / Jerry Young and Mark Rubin / Bill O'Keefe took a share of second place at 9-under 130. Lundquist and Young put together rounds of 70-69, while Rubin and O’Keefe finished the championship with rounds of 69-70.

Championship Format

  • 36 holes of gross four-ball stroke play (commonly known as two-person best-ball)
  • Maximum Field Size - 40 teams (80 players)
  • The lowest team score for 36 holes will be the Champion
    • if necessary, the field will be flighted into two or three flights for gift certificates based on Round 1 scores

What is a Four-Ball? A four-ball is a two person team where the low score of the two players on each hole is counted. It is commonly referred to as best ball.

 

Eligibility 

  • Male amateur golfers at least 65 years of age as of the first day of the Championship
  • Both entrants are required to be members of the FSGA
  • Active Florida GHIN of 15.0 or less at time of entry

Entry Fee

  • $320 per team ($160 per player)

Late entries will be accepted subject to a $10 late entry fee should the entrant gain acceptance into the field.

Schedule of Events

Monday, October 4

  • 8:00 AM - 9:40 AM - Round one tee times off of #1 and #10

Tuesday, October 5

  • 8:30 AM - Shotgun
  • Awards ceremony and complimentary players luncheon immediately following the completion of play

Entry Priority

Entries will be accepted based upon the order of receipt. Entries received after the competitive field is full or after the close of entries, will be placed on an alternates list. Alternates will be contacted in the order of receipt of entry, if and when, a spot becomes available.

Course Set-Up

The golf course will be set-up at approximately 6,200 - 6,400 yards (Championship Division) and 5,800 - 6,000 yards (70 & Over Division)

Flighting

After 18 holes, the number of flights will be based on the number of teams and the range of scores.

Practice Rounds

Practice rounds are available one week prior to the event and after 12:00 PM the weekend prior on a space available basis. The cost of the practice round is $35 + tax and includes cart, golf, and range balls. Please call 941-387-1632 to arrange your practice round. 

Defending Champions

The team of Robert Cunningham & Ronald Cornette were crowned Super-Senior Four-Ball Champions in 2020 at The Amelia Island Club at Long Point. The duo posted rounds of 65-68--133 (-11) to win by four strokes. Click here for the previous year's results.
