Three Teams Victorious at Foursomes Championship
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – In true alternate shot format, three teams were crowned at this year’s Foursomes Championship at the Estates course at PGA National Resort. Two-time defending champions Ty Capps & Tyler Gulliksen defended their title and won three straight in the championship division. Ronald Darin & Lenny Cinquegrano won the Senior Division, and Keith Nagy & Joe Shaktman in the Super-Senior Division.
Championship Division
Round one ended Friday afternoon with some familiar faces atop the Championship leaderboard. Two-time defending champions Ty Capps & Tyler Gulliksen fired a two-under 70 to sit tied at the top. They shared the lead with father-son duo Joe & Cade Alfieri, whose five birdie round also put them at the top. Two other teams finished round one under par and just one back of the lead, featuring Will Davenport & Mike Smith, as well as Gabriel Vanososte & Ricardo Mendez.
With stronger winds on Saturday, conditions were tougher than the first round. The Alfieri’s got off to a hot start, birdieing two of their first five holes to put them in first for the time being. A couple bogey’s on ensuing holes would allow Capps/Gulliksen to charge forward and take a couple-shot lead heading into the final stretch. They would cap off their 2024 season with yet another victory in a team championship, their third of the year. The Alfieri’s would finish in solo second place, while Will Davenport & Mike Smith rounded out the top three.
Senior Division
Through one round in the Senior Division, Ronald Darin and Lenny Cinquegrano held a four-shot lead after their round of two-over 74. In solo second place sat the team of Christopher Bell & Chad Pereira, who looked to make a charge up the leaderboard Saturday morning.
Darin & Cinquegrano were able to maintain their lead throughout all of the final round on Saturday which led to a wire-to-wire victory for their team in the Senior Division. Bell & Pereira would end up finishing three shots back in solo second place.
Super-Senior Division
One team managed an under-par first round in the Super-Senior Division. Keith Nagy & Joe Shaktman fired four birdies on the way to a one-under-par round. This gave them a three-shot lead over the second-place team of Robert Cunningham & Bobby Lundquist.
On Saturday morning, a couple of early double-bogeys would get Nagy & Shaktman off to a rough start. However, they bounced back in great fashion and finished the rest of their round at one-under par. This gave them a six-shot victory over Steven Walczak & Don Russell, who shot a 76 in round two to jump into solo second place.
