Four Super-Seniors Victorious at Panther Run Golf Club

AVE MARIA, Fla. – Two teams claimed victory at the Super-Senior Four-Ball Championship Tuesday at Panther Run Golf Club. Pete Williams and David Tassell secured the Championship Division title, while Tom Grady and Jim Stone took home the trophy in the 70 & Over Division after one playoff hole.

Championship Division

After Round One, the leaderboard was closely contested, but James Starnes and Steve Humphrey emerged with a slim lead at six under, just one stroke ahead of the field. The duo experienced only one setback—a bogey on the 14th hole. By the end of the day, three teams were tied for second at 5-under, while five teams sat tied for third at 4-under, setting the stage for an exciting final round. Pete Williams and David Tassell would see the only bogey-free round in the Championship Division, yet they couldn’t match Starnes and Humphrey's seven birdies.

In a bit of foreshadowing, it was Williams and Tassell who raised the trophy at the end of the Super-Senior Four-Ball Championship. The pair shot a Round Two 65 (-7) that helped them reach a cumulative of 12-under par to walk away victorious. The duo saw a more colorful scorecard on day two, with seven birdies and four bogeys, which earned them a narrow one-stroke lead over second-place finishers, Richard Kerper and Jack Hannon, who carded rounds of 67-66 (-11).

Round One leaders Starnes and Humphrey played consistently, notching a birdie on the 14th hole. However, their score fell short of the day's lowest round (65) set by the overall champions, Williams and Tassell.

70 & Over Division

A similar story unfolded in the 70 & Over division, where Pete McDade and Bob Casamento finished the day with a one-stroke lead at 7-under. The duo saw a bogey-free round while also posting six birdies. Tom Grady and Jim Stone would position themselves in second place going into the Final Round at 6- under, while the closest teams trailing them were at 3-under.

Bobby Lundquist and Jerry Young, who finished tied for third after the completion of Round One would make their way up the leaderboard throughout the Final Round. With a birdie on the 18th hole, the duo would force a playoff with Grady and Stone who finished their bogey-free day at 4-under (68). Ultimately, Grady and Stone secured the trophy by birdieing the first playoff hole, quickly sealing their victory.

Yesterday’s leaders, McDade and Casamento, shot 2-over on the front nine, only finding their rhythm on the back nine. The duo managed four birdies there, but three bogeys kept them at a total score of 71 (-1), placing them in solo third.
