WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Campbell Kennedy and Elan Zhang came out on top on Sunday at the Country Club of Winter Haven, taking home Florida Junior Tour victories. Kennedy took home his first FJT win and Zhang earned her second FJT victory.
Boys 13-18
Kennedy fired a pair of 68 to capture the two-shot victory at 8-under 136. Saturday’s first round saw a lot of red numbers in Boys’ Division, with 12 players finishing the first round under par.
Reggie Zhu opened the first round with a 5-under 67. Kennedy sat one shot back of Zhu after a first-round 68, finishing the day with two eagles and two birdies.
Kennedy got off to a solid start in the final round with an even par on the front side. He went on a run on the back nine, going birdie-birdie-eagle on Nos. 11-13. The Green Cove Springs native added a birdie on the 17th to post a final-round 68 and secure the two-shot win.
Zhu finished the weekend in second place at 6-under 138, finishing with a final-round 71. James Hassell used rounds of 68-71 to finish third at 5-under 139.
Girls 13-18
Zhang took home the win in wire-to-wire fashion, putting together round of 76-72 to finish the weekend at 4-over 148. The Orlando native began the weekend with a 4-over 76 on Saturday to sit in a tie at the top of the leaderboard.
She got off to a quick start in the final round with an eagle on the second hole of the day, making the turn at even par. Zhang finished the day with an even-par back side, carding three birdies, to card a final-round 72 and earn the win.
Ava Zeng finished second at 6-over 150 after rounds of 78-72, while Posie Farrelly and Yingshi (Lydia) Lin finished tied for third at 9-over 153.
