Garratt, Arnold & Biles Finish First
Valentine’s Day marked round one of the Palm City Individual Winter Series Event hosted by The Evergreen Club. With the low round of the day, David Garratt, of Saint Augustine took the early lead in the 40-54 Age Division. Garratt carded an even-par 72 and was trailed by Brian Lehnhard in second place who posted a first round score of four over-par 76. Three players tied for first after round one in the 55-64 Age Division. John Vaccaro, of Sarasota, James Hammons, of Port Orange, and Mike Arnold, of Fort Myers shot three over-par 75 on Sunday to lead by one stroke over Fred Stern in second place. The 65 and Over Age Division saw another three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard after round one. Stephen Maddox, of Lakeland, Robert Biles, of Palm Beach, and John Latowski, of Port Saint Lucie led by two strokes with a five over-par 77. Carey Watson finished the first round in second place with a seven over-par 79.
The players in the 55-64 and 65 and Over Age Divisions teed up Monday ready for a battle to break the three-way tie for first place! In the 55-64 Age Division, Mike Arnold was unstoppable as he propelled to a sole first place victory with an impressive two under-par score of 70, 145 tournament total. Rokki Rogan, from Fort Myers proved that consistency is key with two rounds of 77 (154 total) earning him a second place finish, nine strokes behind. John Vaccaro rounded out third place with a second round 80, tournament total 155. Robert Biles prevailed by one stroke in the 65 and Over Age Division with a final round 81, 158 two-day total. John Latowski bumped down to finish tied for second place with Kim Schwencke at a 159 tournament total.
David Garratt went wire-to-wire to capture the 40-54 Age Division by seven strokes. Garratt scored two steady rounds of 72-76 for a 148 total and his first FSGA win! Brian Lehnhard remained in second place with a final round 79, tournament total 155.
The 2015-2016 Winter Series schedule comes to an end in Clearwater February 29 to March 1. Feather Sound Country Club hosts the Clearwater Individual Winter Series event to finish the season. After this event, the season long points list will then be complete and players’ exemptions into 2016 FSGA State Championships finalized.
