DELAND, Fla. – Four players ended the year with a Florida Junior Tour victory on Sunday at Victoria Hills Golf Club. Aaron Zhang took home the win in the Boys 16-18 Division, and Gabriela Shortridge picked up the win in the Girls 16-18 Division. In the 13-15 Division, Cameron Rocha and Morgan Pichler earned wins.
This is the first FJT win for all four players.
Boys 16-18
Zhang used a 3-over 147 to earn his first FJT victory. The Lake Mary resident sat two shots back of the leader after a first-round 74 on Saturday.
He began the final round with an even-par front side. Zhang ran into some trouble on the back nine, bogeying two of the first three holes. He turned it around quickly, playing the net five holes at even-par. The 2021 graduate birdies the final hole to post a final-round 73 and secure the win.
Siyuan Lyu, Mark Exum and Nick Zarillo all finished tied for second at 5-over 149, while Matthew Exum finished fifth at 6-over 150. Aaron Setiawan posted the low round of the day with an even-par 72 to finish in a tie for sixth with Alexander Hall.
Girls 16-18
Shortridge survived a playoff to capture her first FJT win, finishing the weekend at 9-over 153. She carded a first-round 77 to sit three shots back of the leader after Saturday.
The Orlando native got off to a quick start with three-straight birdies to begin the final round and made the turn at 1 over for the day. She finished the day with a 4-over 76 and sat in a tie for Marissa Cardenas at 9-over 153. Shortridge birdie the first playoff to take home the win.
Boys 13-15
A birdie on the second playoff hole gave Rocha his first FJT victory, finishing the weekend at 6-over 150. He took a share of the lead after the first round, posting a 2-over 74.
Rocha started the final round with a 2 over on the front side. He finished the day with an even-par back nine with four birdies to sit in a tie for first with Palmer Hayes and Ryan Lopez. Rocha and Lopez both bogeyed the first playoff hole to advance to the second. Rocha birdied the par-5 18th holes to get the win.
Hayes and Lopez finished tied for second while four players finished tied for fourth at 9-over 153.
Girls 13-15
Pichler used the low round of the day to take home the win at 6-over 150. The Hobe Sound native carded a 4-over 76 in the first round to sit four shot back of the leader.
She carded back-to-back birdies on the front side to make the turn at 1 under for the day. Pichler finished the day with a 3-over back nine to post a final-round 74 and take the win.
XiMiao Zhai finished runner-up at 7-over 151. Zhair and Pichler both posted the low round fo the day, 2-over 74. Braydn Smith finished third at 8-over 152,
