Kim & Carter Contain Osprey Point
Boca Raton, Fla. - Late rains on Sunday led to some added suspense at the FJT Osprey Point Open. However, Grace Carter was able to avoid late disaster, while Shayaan Kim came from behind to win. Read along to see how they were able to get it done!
Boys 13-15
Day one saw a compact leaderboard, with five players being within three shots of the lead. Grabbing a hold of that lead was Zexi Xue and Gatlin Albright. Combined, the two leaders only saw one bogey between the two of them. Albright's bogey free round consisted of three birdies while Xue saw one bogey paired with four birdies. Sitting two shots back was Shayaan Kim, looking for his third FJT win in the 2024 year.
After a rough start from Xue and Albright, the door was opened for Shayaan Kim to make a charge. Kim opened in two under on the front nine and never looked back. After a final round 69, Shayaan Kim was able to grab a hold of the trophy by two shots over Nathan Erickson. Rounding out the podium was overnight leader Gatlin Albright.
Girls 13-15
The youngest Team Florida member, Grace Carter, took early control of the leaderboard after an opening round 69. Similar to Zexi Xue's opening round in the boys division, Carter's round consisted of four birdies and a lone bogey. Rain Jiang and Catherine Andino were both looking for their first FJT win of the 2024 year after shooting 70 and 71 respectively.
Round two saw some late suspense being added. After a double bogey on the 17th hole from the leader Grace Carter, her lead was cut to just one with one hole left to play over Andino. Carter was able to stay calm and secure a par on the last hole, giving her a one shot victory over Catherine Andino. Finishing in third was Rain Jiang after firing a final round 74.
