VERO BEACH, Fla. - Katie Carman, Gabriella DeGasperis, Jiaming Liu, and Tristan Wieland all had their first victory on the Florida Junior Tour Sunday at Sandridge Golf Club. The four respectively won in the Girls (16-18), Girls (13-15), Boys (16-18), and Boys (13-15) divisions.
Girls (16-18)
Carman, an Estero resident, got off to a tie for the first round lead on Saturday, shooting a 4-over par 76. Her final round 79 (+7) was enough to get her into a playoff with Samantha Paradise; both girls finished the tournament at 11-over par. Carman won on the first playoff hole, the par-3 17th by making a birdie after knocking her tee shot to about 3 feet. Megan Griggs finished in third with a 77-79 (+12).
Girls (13-15)
DeGasperis posted the low round of the day on Saturday, a 1-over par 73. She took her one-shot lead and ran with it, extending it to two shots by time play was completed. Junyuan Zhang, of Orlando, posted a 77-73 (+6) to bring home second place in the division. Amelia Cobb shot 74-77 (+7) for a third place finish.
Boys (16-18)
Liu, of Bradenton, was two shots back of the lead entering Sunday's final round. His clutch 2-under round of 70 made him the lowest score in his division, finishing even par for the tournament. Jack Hardy took home second place, shooting 74-75 (+5). Four players finished in a tie for third at 7-over par: Masen McKain, Stephen Scott, Sebastian Sacristan, and Nate Greenwalt.
Boys (13-15)
Wieland, a Jupiter native, faced a one shot deficit going into the final round. He played steady on Sunday, finishing his round at even par, and the tournament at three-over par. Cameron Reed brought home the silver in that division, shooting 75-77 (+8). In third place was Jack Quinn, who shot 74-79 (+9).
