ENGLEWOOD, Fla. – After heavy rains washed out the final round, Ian Bell, Kelly Shanahan and Lauren Clark took home Florida Junior Tour wins this weekend at Duran Golf Club. Bell was victorious in Boys 16-18 Division after holding the lead after 18 holes, while Shanahan and Clark were co-champions in the Girls 16-18 Division.
This is the first FJT victory for Bell and Shanahan, while this is the sixth FJT victory for Clark.
Boys 16-18 Division
Bell got off to a slow start in the first round of Saturday, playing the first eight holes at 4 over. The Port Orange native turned it around quickly on the back side, birdieing four of her first five holes. He went on to eagle the 15th and add another birdie on the 17th.
Winter finished the round with a 4-under 68 to sit two shot ahead of the field. After the final round was cancelled due to weather, Bell captured the win in the Boys 16-18 Division.
Richard Dou finished second at 2-under 70, going eagle-birdie-birdie on the back nine, carding back-to-back birdies to close out the first round on Saturday. Bell and Dou were the lone two players in the field to post under-par rounds.
Four players finished the tournament in a tie for second: James Key, Connor Holcroft, Reggie Zhu and Egor Zubov.
Girls 16-18 Division
Shanahan and Clark were crowned co-champions in the Girls 16-18 Division at 4-over 68. Shanahan had a strong start to the day with a three-under front nine, with four birdies. She added three more birdies on the back side to post a 4-under 68 for the day to capture her first FJT win.
Clark also got off to a hot start on Saturday, posting a bogey-free front side with two birdies. She continued her strong play on the back, birdieing three straight holes on No. 14-16, finishing with a 4-uner 68 to earn her sixth FJT victory.
Mayumi Umezu and Ellen Dong finished in a tie for third place at 2-under 70. Shanahan, Clark, Umezu and Dong were the only players in the field to finish under par.
Results
