ELKTON, Fla. – William Lisle and Wendy Xizhao Wei reigned victorious at the FJT St. Johns Open (13-15) on Sunday, August 27. For the first time after the recent renovation of the golf course, the Florida Junior Tour played St. Johns Golf Club for a 36-hole event. The course was in great condition and was a challenge to play with its firm, undulating greens and tight fairways. Lisle and Wei rose to the challenge and left with trophies to show for it.
Boys (13-15) Division
The leaderboard was tight at the end of the first round of the Boys Division. Jaspreet Kondal and William Lisle shared the lead at even par. Kondal played a consistent first round posting three birdies and three bogeys to finish with an even par, 71. Lisle started out hot in his first round posting a birdie and an eagle through the first four holes. A few bogeys later, Lisle carded another eagle on hole eleven and held his score at four under par through fourteen holes. Four straight bogeys on his final four holes left Lisle at even par at the end of his first round, but still with a share of the lead.
The leaderboard remained close throughout the final round. Lisle, Kondal and Alexander Parker all remained tied for the lead through fourteen holes. Lisle took a one stroke lead through fifteen holes and then later extended his lead to three strokes. He ended up finishing with a total of two over par for the tournament, three strokes over Alexander Parker. Jonah Nacional finished in third place.
Girls (13-15) Division
It was a tight race at the top of the leaderboard for the Girls Division at the end of the first round as well. Sahana Chokshi and Sofia Rivera shared the lead at two over par and Wendy Xizhao Wei was not far behind in third place after carding a three over par. Chokshi posted two birdies and an eagle during her first round.
The final round proved to be interesting as Wei, Rivera and Chokshi passed around the lead most of the day. Ultimately, Wei posted a one under par 70 and Rivera posted an even par 71 to finish with a total of two over par for 36 holes and a tie for first. A three-hole play-off ensued in which Wei came out victorious with a birdie on the third and final hole. This is Wei’s second consecutive Florida Junior Tour win in just two weeks.
