Kondal & Chokshi Victorious on Labor Day

Avon Park, Fla.- It was a record breaking Labor Day weekend in Avon Park! Highlands Ridge served as a great setting for this weekend for 54-hole event. As the some of the states finest teed it up this weekend and after some great golf was played, it was Jaspreet Kondal and Sahana Chokshi who brought home the hardware.

Boys (13-15)

After a windy round one, Jake Mason held the lead by carding an impressive 3 under, Jaspreet Kondal carded a 5 over 77 with an impressive birdie-birdie finish, Kondal said “I told myself if I could make two birdies on the way in I’m in a good position.” This mindset was exactly what he propelled himself into moving day.

On day two, Kondal and Eddie Gu both fired one under, this score and consistency is what put Gu on the top of the leaderboard heading into day 3. Going into the final day Kondal was 5 shots back. With a combination of great ball-striking a putts dropping Kondal posted an incredible 6 under, 66, carding 8 birdies! Kondal finished 17 and 18 birdie-birdie again to tie Eddie Gu on the top of the leaderboard. Gu kept it consistent with a day 3 score of 71, but with a par on the last, this would lead to a play off. Kondal won the first playoff hole with a textbook two putt birdie on the par 5, 18th hole.

Girls (13-15)

On the girls leaderboard there was much lower scores. After round one, Victoria Feng held the lead by carding an impressive 66, however after shooting 68 Chokshi found herself second place after. On day 2 Chokshi saw what she wanted and took it, carding two eagles and 4 birdies she shot a beautiful 66. This propelled her to the top of the leaderboard to lead by 4 going into the final day.

Similar to Kondal, Iris Lee made a charge on day 3 carding an almost flawless 65, with her only bogey being on 18. However, this would not be enough to catch Chokshi as she shot another amazing under par round of 69. With the 54-hole total of 203, Chokshi now holds the FJT 54-hole scoring record and her first FJT win!
