BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - The FSGA Winter Series stopped in Brooksville at the Southern Hills Plantation Club Monday and Tuesday. Three winners were crowned in the Mid-Amateur, Senior, and Super-Senior divisions, respectively. Mark Hanenberger of Lecanto, Jeff Kaufman of Tampa, and Pete McDate of Lakeland brought home the hardware.
Mid-Amateur
Hanenberger shot a 5-over 77 on Monday and found himself trailing by four strokes entering the final round. His 2-over 74 was enough to secure a one-shot victory in the Mid-Amateur division. Brian Brennan and Vince Van Brunt had matching rounds of 73-79 to finish in a tie for second place.
Senior
In the Senior division, Kaufman shot a 3-over 75 on Monday. Trailing by three strokes, he fired the low round of the tournament, a 4-under 68, on Tuesday to vault himself into first-place. David Tassell of Jupiter also went low on Tuesday, shooting a 1-under 71 to pair with his opening round 78. His 5-over finish for the tournament was enough to come in second in the Senior division.
In third-place, Derek Waddington, Douglas Jones, and John Taylor all tied, finishing 6-over.
Super-Senior
McDade, in similar fashion to Kaufman, shot a low round to snatch his victory. Trailing by three on Tuesday, he shot a 2-under 70 to claim the win. Dan Gladman, of Sanford, came in second-place with rounds of 73-75, finishing the tournament at 4-over.
Two players tied for third, Walter Himelsbaugh of Leesburg and Ken Kirchner of Bradenton. The pair both shot 74-75, finishing at 5-over for the tournament.
