Mulhern, Peterson & Lundquist Winners
The first Winter Series event of 2016 kicked off at The Conservatory at Hammock Beach, located in Palm Coast, with temperatures not reaching above 55 degrees both days of competition. Baldonick Fernandez, of Pembroke Pines continued his streak of being at the top of the leaderboard after round one. Fernandez tied Ryan Mulhern, of Tampa with a first round score of two over-par, 74, for first place in the 40-54 Age Division. Gary Blackwell, of Jacksonville proves to play well at The Conservatory at Hammock Beach after winning a One-Day event there in 2015. Blackwell fired an even par score of 72 to finish round one in first place in the 55-64 age division. Blake Marshall followed in second place, two strokes behind, and Chip Peterson finished third after a round one 75. In the 65 and over age division, Sanford resident, Robert Lundquist took the lead after round one by four strokes with Pete Andrews in second place after a score of 77.
In the 40-54 age division, Ryan Mulhern held onto first place while Fernandez fell down the leaderboard to complete the event in eighth place. Jim Marcelak, of Fort Myers posted two consistent scores of 76 to catch up and tie Mulhern at the top with a tournament total 152. After the second playoff hole, Mulhern won the battle for first place, marking his first Winter Series victory. Orlando resident, Chip Peterson proved the importance of consistency with a second round 74 to finish with a 149 total and a first place win in the 55-64 age division. Pete DeLongchamp, of Sebring also displayed consistency with two 77’s for a tournament total 154 and a second place finish. In the 65 and over age division, Robert Lundquist never let first place out of his sight finishing with a final round 79, tournament total 152. John Latowski, of Port Saint Lucie was five strokes behind in second place with rounds of 79-78—157.

The Winter Series is for players 40 years and older, and runs from late November through early March. Players will compete in one of three age divisions (40-54, 55-64 and 65 & Over) based on their age for the final event. A season long points list is kept through the winter earning players exemptions into 2016 FSGA State Championships. The Winter Series travels to North Tampa for the next event held at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club, January 18-19.
