Three Juniors Victorious at Santa Lucia
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Lev Grinberg, Jude Desmond and Kayla Bryant picked up Florida Junior Tour wins on Sunday at Santa Lucia River Club. It was the second FJT win for Grinberg, third for Bryant and first for Desmond.
Boys 11-12
Grinberg earned his second-straight FJT victory with a 1-under 143, the only under-par total for the weekend. The Boca Raton native posted a 2-over 74 in the first round to trail the leader, Miles Russell, by one shot.
Grinberg began the final round with back-to-back birdies and finished the front nine at 1 under. He carded a bogey-free back nine, adding two birdies. He secured the win with a final-round 69, the lone under-par round in the tournament, to earn the six-stroke win.
This was Grinberg’s second-straight FJT victory, after taking home the win at Ocala Golf Club.
Mateo Desmond took home second place with a 5-over 149, posting a 4-over 76 on Saturday and a 1-over 73 in the final round. Jessy Huebner finished third at 9-over153, while Russell finished fourth at 10-over154.
Boys 9-10
Desmond earned his first FJT on Sunday with a 15-over 159. He carded a 10-over 82 in first round to sit 10 shots back of the leader. The Pompano Beach native started the final round with a 2 over on his first nine.
After bogeying the first three holes on his second nine, Desmond played the final six holes at even par to secure the one-stroke victory.
Bento Assis finished second place at 16-over 160, shooting an even-par 72 in the first round. Patrick Pinkney and Christian Koehn tied for second at 21-over 165.
Girls 11-12
Bryant picked up her third-straight victory with a 13-over 157 at Santa Lucia. After a first-round 80, she sat two shots back of the leader, Valentina Hurtado.
In the final round, Bryant took a three shot lead over Hurtado and the field after a 3 over on her first nine. Hurtado pulled back into a tie for first with back-to-back birdies to start her second nine.
Bryant finished the day with a 2-over on her second nine to secure the one-stroke victory. Hurtado took home second place at 14-over 158, while Angela Nip finished third at 17-over 161.
