OCALA, Fla. – In the final Winter Series event of the season, three players captured wins at the Country Club of Ocala on Tuesday. Douglas Schneider, Jimmy Jones Sr. and Bobby Lundquist all claimed their divisions in Ocala.
Mid-Amateur
Douglas Schneider captured the mid-amateur division, defeating Christopher Anderson in a playoff. He posted a 2-over 146 for the two-day event. Following the first round, he was in a tie for second place, after shooting a 5-over 77 on Monday.
The Lake Park, Fla. birdied the first hole, before carding a bogey and a double bogey on the third and fourth holes. Heading into the back nine, Schneider was sitting at 7-over for the tournament. He posted five birdies on the back nine, with three straight on the 13th, 14th and 15th holes.
Schneider finished the final round with a 3-under 69, the low-round of the tournament. This was the first Winter Series win of his career.
Senior
Jimmy Jones, Sr. was victorious in the senior division, recording an even-par 144. After the first round, Jones was three-strokes behind the leader, after a 4-over 76 on Monday.
The Tampa, Fla. native carded a bogey-free round on Tuesday, with four birdies. Jones finished the final round with a 4-under 68, the only under-par round of the tournament, to capture the win. He finished five strokes ahead of runner-up Chuck Davis.
This is Jones’ first Winter Series victory since January 2018, when he won at Hunters Green Country Club with four-ball partner, Earl Lanoue.
Super-Senior
Bobby Lundquist took home the trophy in super-senior division on Tuesday, his second-straight Winter Series win. The Sanford, Fla. native was in a tie for second heading into the final round, after shooting 3-over 75 in the first round.
He birdied three holes in the final round to finish with an even-par 72 and secure the win. Lundquist shot a 3-over 147 for the event.
Winter Series Points Champions
With Country Club of Ocala as the final of seven events, the Winter Series season wrapped up on Tuesday. At the conclusion of the event, Paul Tesori, Douglas Jones and Doug LaCrosse were named the 2018-2019 Winter Series Points Champions in their respective divisions.
Jones and LaCrosse locked up the titles earlier this month at LPGA International. Coming into the final event, Tesori need a fifth-place finish or better to clinch the title. He finished in third at 8-over 152 to be named the Mid-Amateur Points Champion.
