Kubica & Li Go Wire-to-Wire in the Rain
ORANGE PARK, Fla. – Konner Kubica and Mi Li fought the elements to go wire-to-wire and be crowned champions at the FJT Eagle Harbor Open (16-18). This 36-hole event saw unfavorable playing conditions in the final round as rainy weather caused a two-hour suspension of play.
Boys (16-18)
Konner Kubica posted a 67-72 to secure the victory by just one shot over the field. Kubica came out firing with seven birdies in the first round to take a two shot lead into the final round. The final round brought tough playing conditions as morning wind turned into strong guests and torrential rain. After a two hour, rain delay Kubica played a steady back nine shooting even par, 36, with one birdie and one bogey.
In addition, Emmet Kuhlenkamp finished in second place posting scores of 69-71. Kuhlenkamp posted eight birdies and one eagle over the 36 holes and hung close to Kubica’s lead all the way to the last hole. Noah Peens and Luke Balaskiewicz finished in a tie for third place shooting a two round total of 142.
Girls (16-18)
Mi Li secured her wire-to-wire victory with impressive scores of 68-70. Li led the field with ten birdies en route to a six shot victory. She credits her spectacular play to her putting, making several birdie putts over twenty feet. Seemingly unfazed by the long delay of play, she posted an even par 36 to close out her round.
Moreover, Catalina Harvey finished in second place shooting rounds of 73-71. Even though the weather added a level of difficulty, Harvey managed to improve by two strokes in the final round. Finishing with a back nine of three-under par helped move her up into the second place finish.
In addition, Madison Moman finished in solo third with rounds of 76-72. A solid final round in tough conditions was good enough to move up two spots.
