Davis & Richards Become First-Time Winners
AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. – Battling tough conditions throughout the weekend, it was Sam Davis and Anika Richards who took home the win on Sunday at Amelia Island Plantation. This is the first Florida Junior Tour win for both Davis and Richards.
Boys 16-18
Davis captured the win in the Boys 16-18 Division on the Oak Marsh Course on Sunday, finishing the weekend at 4-over 148. Facing 25 mph winds in the first round, Davis took a share of the first-round lead, with his brother Will Davis, at 2-over 74.
The Jacksonville native got off to a steady start in the final round with pars on the first five holes. After a bogey on the sixth, Davis added a birdie on the eighth and made the turn at 1-over for the day. He bogeyed a single hole on the back side to post a final-round 74 and take home the two-shot victory.
Justin Sui and Clay Tucker took home a tied-for-second finish at 6-over 150, while Moses Compaan took fourth at 7-over 151. Tucker and Compaan both carded a 1-over 73 on Sunday, the low round of the tournament.
Will Davis, who held a share of the 18-hole lead, finished the weekend in a tie for fifth with Carson Brewer and Chase Haygood, at 10-over 154.
Girls 16-18
Richards came out on top in her first FJT start, carding an 8-over 152 for the two-day tournament. She started the weekend with a 2-over 74 on Saturday to take a four-shot lead over the field.
The Fernandina Beach native started the final round with a birdie on the 10th. She added three more birdies and four bogeys on the front side to make the turn at even par for the day. Richard finished the round with a 6-over back nine to record a final-round 78 and take home the four-shot victory.
Hina Matsui finished the weekend with a runner-up finish at 12-over 156. Kaley Amuso and Mi Li took a share of third place at 14-over 158.
