OCALA, FLA. – Reggie Zhu and Youyang Li were victorious at Stone Creek Golf Club this weekend. Zhu won the Boys Division shooting seven-under par, beating Chase Carroll on their second playoff hole. Li shot 66 in round two to win by one stroke at eight-under par.
Boys (13-18)
Great scoring conditions on Saturday gave way to 23 rounds under par. Zhu held the first-round lead after shooting a five-under, 67, one shot ahead of Carroll and Shawn Coultoff. Five other players shot three-under, 69, resulting in a cramped leaderboard after day one.
With great conditions again Sunday morning for round two, the players torched the course again, this time with 27 rounds under par. Highlights of round two included Braden Miller shooting a tournament-low score of seven-under 65 and Sohan Patel carding his first ever hole-in-one on the par three 12th hole. With just one hole to play, Zhu held a one shot lead, but a bogey forced a playoff with himself and Carroll. After both players birdied their first playoff hole, Reggie Zhu won the division with a birdie on the second playoff hole.
Girls (13-18)
Remi Bacardi and Sophia Dyer both shot four-under 68 to share the lead after round one, with Dyer’s round fueled by a late eagle on the par-five 16th hole. They were one stroke ahead of Chloe Kovelesky, who’s three-under back-nine helped her shoot 69.
After being two strokes back after day one, Youyang Li fired a four-under front nine to put herself in the lead. From that point, the Winter Garden native didn’t look back and held the lead or was tied for the lead for the rest of the day. A birdie on hole nine, her final hole, helped give her a one-shot victory over Kovelesky.
