VALRICO, Fla. – Pavel Tsar and Katie Yang rise to the top after two tough days at River Hills Country Club. Blustery and wet conditions on Saturday and cold temperatures on Sunday tested the field. Tsar added to his Florida Junior Tour victories, while Yang broke through for her first win.
Boys (13-15)
Tsar continued his impressive play to take home his second FJT victory of the 2022 season. This is back-to-back victories for Tsar. Rounds of 74-75 were good enough for a one-shot victory over Mason and Rodriguez who were looking to make a move on Sunday.
Mason started the final round tied for the lead after a solid round of 74 in extremely windy conditions. After a bogey on the final hole, Mason fell one shot short of forcing a playoff. Mason’s rounds of 74-76 put him in a tie for second.
Rodriguez started the final round looking to make a move after an opening-round 76 put him two off the lead. With the help of four birdies, Rodriguez’s round of 74 was the low round of the day for the boys and moved him up into a tie-for-second finish with Mason.
Girls (13-15)
Yang went wire-to-wire to capture her first-ever win this weekend at River Hills Country Club. A spectacular round of 75 in the first round put Yang in excellent position heading into the final round. Although conditions throughout the weekend proved to be tough, Yang’s second-round 77 was enough to secure a one shot victory.
Cherif Essakali made a charge during the final round almost forcing a playoff. Unsatisfied with her first-round score, Cherif Essakali rallied in the final round and carded an impressive round of 72, which was the low score of the tournament.
Rounding out the top three, Schremmer posted two consistent rounds of 77 and was back and forth with the lead all day. The Alabama native was tied for the lead for most of the final stretch.
