ESTERO, Fla. – Moses Compaan and Ava Zeng raised a FJT trophy for the first time by prevailing over tough competition at Old Corkscrew Golf Club.
Boys 16-18
Sebastian Kawas, of Doral, posted the only under-par round of the day to take the early lead after round one. An eagle on the par-5 eighth hole and three birdies secured the round one lead for Kawas at 1-under 71. Orlando native, Diego Passos, finished one stroke back in second place followed by Moses Compaan at one over-par in third place.
A birdie on the first hole started the momentum for Compaan in round two. The Jacksonville native finished the front-nine at even par and with two birdies on the back-nine Compaan claimed first place. A final round 1-under 71 for Compaan secured his victory at even-par 144. Kawas finished in second place, five strokes back, after a second round 78. Diego Passos took third place with a round two 79 and 151 finish. Compaan prevailed over tough competition to earn his first FJT victory!
Girls 16-18
Addison Klonowski and Ava Zeng tied with a one stroke lead over the field after round one. Zeng, of Windermere, and Klonowski, of Naples, posted a round one score of 75. Chasing close behind in second place finished Chaewon Jeong, Kelly Shanahan, Kaylee Ehret, and Amelie Alcantara.
Round two was a steady battle between Zeng and Klonowski. Zeng led by one stroke heading into the final nine holes but with a steady back-nine from Klonowski the two remained tied at the top. Zeng and Klonowski teed up on the 18th hole for a playoff to determine the champion. Zeng prevailed with a birdie on the first playoff hole to hoist the trophy and earn her first FJT win.
