NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Moses Compaan and Nicole Yugay came out on top this weekend, both earning their second Florida Junior Tour win at Sugar Mill Country Club. Both divisions went wire-to-wire winning by one stroke over the field.
Boys 13-18
Compaan fired an impressive first round 8-under 64, which is the second lowest 18-hole scoring record in FJT history for Boys 16-18. The Jacksonville native registered nine birdies to take a five-shot lead, while four players sat tied for second at 3 under.
Bennett Stone finished strong carding a 7-under 65 on Sunday after being eight shots out of the lead following Saturday’s first round. His scorecard included six birdies and an eagle with one lone bogey. James Hassell also registered two impressive scores of 69-68 to finish at 7-under 137, which included an eagle in his final round.
Compaan started off strong on Sunday with a score of 2 under on his front nine. He edged out Stone and Hassell by one shot with a final round of even-par 72.
Girls 13-18
Yugay took home the win in wire-to-wire fashion, putting together rounds of 72-72 to finish the weekend at even-par 144. The Delray Beach native sat one shot off of the lead after Saturday’s round to earn herself a spot in Sunday’s final pairing.
She got off to a hot start on Sunday with a solid 3 under on the front nine, and finished with 3 over on the back nine to earn her a one shot win over Karoline Tuttle.
Tuttle put together two solid rounds of 73-72 for a 1-over 145, and finished off the event with two birdies on her final holes. Kayla Bryant took home solo third with a 2-over 146.
