Golovanov & Klonowski Win at Santa Lucia
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Matvey Golovanov and Addison Klonowski picked up Florida Junior Tour wins on Sunday at Santa Lucia River Club. Golovanov and Klonowski both earned their second FJT victories.
Boys 13-15
Golovanov took home the win in wire-to-wire fashion, finishing the weekend with a 1-over 145. The Boca Raton native began the tournament with a 1-under 71 in the first round, the only under-par round of the day. He carded a bogey-free front nine on Saturday with four birdies.
Starting the final round with a one-shot lead, Golovanov began the day with a 2-over front side. He birdied two of his first three hole on the back nine and finished the day with a 2-over 74. Golovanov secured the one-shot victory to pick up his second FJT win.
Ibby Carrington took home a runner-up finish at 2-over 146, posting rounds of 74-72 for the weekend. Aaron Leach used rounds of 77-70 to take third place at 3-over 147. His final-round 70 was the low round of the weekend in the Boys Division.
Vlad Alexander Barcea, who finished the weekend in a tie for 26th, aced the par-3 fourth hole in Saturday’s first round.
Girls 13-15
Klonowski came from behind to capture her second FJT victory at 2-over 146. The Naples native began the tournament with a 5-over 77 to sit four shots back of the first-round leader, Amelie Phung.
Getting off to a quick start in the final round, Klonowski carded back-to-back birdies to begin the day. She added another birdie to make the turn at 3 under for the day. Klonowski continued her strong play on the back side with a birdie on the first.
Her only hiccup on the day came with a double bogey on the fifth. But she turned it around finishing the day bogey free with a birdie on the eighth. Klonowski captured the four-shot win with a final-round 69, the low round of the tournament.
Layla Pedrique finished second at 6-over 150 with rounds of 75-75. Elan Zhang and Kayla Bryant finished the weekend in a tie for third at 8-over 152, while Phung, who held the 18-hole lead, finished in fifth place at 9-over 153.
