LADY LAKE, Fla – Lucas Gimenez ended 2022 with a dominating victory at the Florida Junior Tour event at Harbor Hills Country Club. Marley Pedrique needed two playoff holes to notch her first victory in the 13-15 age division.
Boys 13-15
With perfect conditions on Saturday, Lucas Gimenez found himself at the top of the leaderboard after firing a first round 3-under 69. Holding a 1-shot lead at the start of play on Sunday, Gimenez came out the gate firing on all cylinders. With early birdies on holes 2, 4, 6 and 7, the Jacksonville native pulled away from the field. Gimenez would go on to shoot a final round 5-under 67 to pick up his first victory of the year with a total of 136. Gimenez lead the field with 12 birdies over the two rounds.
Consistent play saw Arth Sinha finishing runner-up with rounds of 71-71 --142. Sinha made eight birdies offset with six bogies to finish at 2 under par, six shots behind Gimenez. Sohan Patel of Weston, FL rounded out the top three finishing at 1 under par with scores of 71-72 -- 143 over the weekend.
Girls 13-15
While chilly conditions greeted the players on Sunday morning, the competition in the girls division was heating up. Marley Pedrique and Miranda Lu would need extra holes on Sunday to determine a winner. Starting the final round, Pedrique and Lu were one and two shots, respectively, behind the overnight leader, Angela Nip.
Lu opened up her second round with birdies on each of her first three holes to grab the lead. She made one more birdie along the way to shooting a bogey free, 4-under 68. That was only enough to get into a playoff with Pedrique as she had a final round 69, with four birdies offset by a lone bogey. After two playoff holes, Pedrique emerged victorious to earn her first victory of 2022 in the 13-15 age division.
After having a one shot lead after first round's play, Angela Nip notched a third-place finish with rounds of 71-75--146.
