Grinberg & Huber Win Again on the FJT
PORT SAINT LUCIE, Fla. – Lev Grinberg and Katelyn Huber claimed victories at Santa Lucia River Club. Huber, of Gainesville, defeated tough competition to earn her second FJT win of the year, while Grinberg, of Four Corners, prevailed after a playoff to capture his third win.
Boys 13-15
Reggie Zhu, and brothers, Alex and Beni Long prevailed through one weather suspension to tie at the top after round one at 1-over 73. Lev Grinberg, of Four Corners, finished one-stroke behind in second place.
Round two saw a change at the top as Grinberg played steady golf to erase a one-stroke deficit and climb up the board. Beni Long, of Lakewood Ranch, remained in the lead throughout the second round. Beni turned at one over and with back-to-back birdies on holes 10 and 11, finished with a 74 and 3-over 147. Winter Garden resident, Zhu, and Alex Long struggled in the final round to move out of the lead. Grinberg finished strong with a birdie on 16 and 18 to finish with a 73 and tie for the lead with Beni Long.
Long and Grinberg headed to the first hole for a sudden death playoff to determine the champion. Grinberg continued his strong play to win the playoff with a par on the first hole and claim his third FJT victory.
Girls 13-15
Katelyn Huber, of Gainesville, took the early lead in round one after posting three birdies for a 1-under 71. Nicole Yugay, of Delray Beach, followed three strokes behind in second place with a 74. Huber carded the only under-par round of the tournament!
Huber, looking for her second FJT win of the year, turned at even par, with a birdie on the ninth hole, in her final round. Elan Zhang, of Orlando, climbed up the leaderboard with a one under front-nine. A birdie on the par-4 16th hole finished Zhang in second place at 6-over 150. Gainesville resident, Huber, never let first place out of sight. Finishing with a 77 and 4-over 148, Huber captured her second FJT win of the year by two-strokes.
