LADY LAKE, Fla. – After battling out the tough and windy conditions during the first round, two champions were crowned on Sunday at Harbor Hills Country Club. Reggie Zhu and Izzy Pellot both won in commanding fashion to take home the Florida Junior Tour trophy.
Boys (16-18)
During the first round, Reggie Zhu pushed through the tough conditions to take a two-shot lead with an even-par 72. Carson Baez, Stefan Ink, and Chapin Beach Smith all sat within striking distance of Zhu going into Sunday’s final round.
Alex Long started his final round with a 5-under 31 on his front nine to put him within one shot of the lead. He fought hard but came up just one shot short of Zhu to take solo second place, shooting 4-under 68 and low round of the tournament. Zhu turned in a scorecard with just two bogies and one birdie to post a 1-over 73 for the day and a one shot victory.
Carson Baez and Stefan Ink came in a tie for third place both shooting 74-73 for the weekend.
Girls (16-18)
Ava Zeng took a commanding three-shot lead over the field after the first round, carding a 1-under 71. The Windermere native posted an impressive three birdies on her back nine on Saturday. Izzy Pellot posted a 2-over 74 to put herself just three shots behind Zeng going into Sunday.
Sunday was an exciting final round, as it came down to the very last hole. Four players fought back and forth for first place up until hole 18. In the second to last group of the day, Honorine Nobuta Ferry birdied her final hole to put her in a tie for first with Pellot and Katelyn Huber, posting a 1-under 71 for the day. In the final group, Pellot drained her birdie putt to secure the victory shooting a 74-71.
Huber and Notbuta Ferry took home a tie for second, both shooting a 75-71 for the weekend. Gracie Grant ended up just two shots back in solo fourth place, posting a 75-72.
