Holcroft & Zhang Pick Up Wins at Florida Club
STUART, Fla. – Connor Holcroft and Caiyi(Flora) Zhang came out on top on Sunday at The Florida Club. Both players earned victories at the 16-18 event, with Holcroft picking up his first FJT win and Zhang taking home her second.
Boys 16-18
Holcroft used a strong back nine in the final round to secure his first FJT win, finishing the weekend at 3-under 141. He took the first-round lead with a 1-over 73 on Saturday, finishing the day with a bogey-free back nine.
The Saint Augustine began the final round with an even-par front nine. He got it going on the back side with a birdie on the 12th and the 14th. Holcroft added back-to-back birdied on the 16th and the 17th to post a final-round 68 and capture the one-shot victory.
Bennett Stone took home the runner-up finish, posting rounds of 74-68 to finish at 2-under 142. Holcroft and Stone both shot the low round of the weekend, with final-round 68s.
Three player finished the weekend in a tie for third place at 1-under 143: Moses Compaan, Alexander Hall, Hans Risvaer and Reinaldo Simoni.
Girls 16-18
Zhang survived a playoff to take home her second FJT victory, posting a 1-under 143 for the weekend. The Bradenton native took the first-round lead with a 2-under 70 on Saturday, finishing the day with a bogey-free back nine and four birdies on the day.
Beginning the final round with a two-shot lead, Zhang got off to a quick start with a birdie on the 10th. She closed out the front side with two bogeys to make the turn at 1 over for the day.
Zhang finished the day with an even-par back nine with two birdies to sit in a tie for first with Mayumi Umezu at 1-under 143. Zhang secured the victory on the second playoff hole with par. Umezu finished runner-up after rounds of 75-68. She carded six-straight birdies in the final round to post a 4-under 68, the low round of the weekend in the Girls Division.
Skylee Shin took third place at 3-over 147 with rounds of 72-75.
