JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Shawn Coultoff and Izzy Pellot battled difficult conditions to finish on top at the FJT Bent Creek Open in Jacksonville. Windy conditions on Saturday and cooler temperatures on Sunday tested the field. Both players added to their already impressive FJT records with Izzy notching her seventh win and Shawn with his sixth.
Boys (16-18)
Christian Allen shot an impressive 1-under 70 in the first round. He held an one-shot lead over Shawn Coultoff, who had an outstanding round with an even-par 71. Allen’s round included a lone bogey on the 13th hole before bouncing back with a birdie on the next, while Coultoff found his groove on his second nine shooting a stellar 3-under 33 to finish day one on a high note.
Coultoff grabbed the lead early on Sunday, but Allen did not give up easily with the two players exchanging the lead throughout the day. Allen eagled the sixth hole to regain the lead briefly. In the end, Coultoff prevailed and played his final five holes at even par finishing with a 6-over 77, which was enough to push him ahead of Allen, Justin Siu, and Armand Loscalzo by two shots.
Girls (16-18)
Pellot went wire-to-wire to capture her first win of the 2022 season. The soon-to-be Mississippi State Bulldog shot 6-over 77 in the first round, and held a one-shot lead over Grace Smith from Wallingford, Pennsylvania and a two-shot lead over Skylee Shin.
Smith was able to capitalize on Pellot’s difficult start to the final round and took the lead briefly after the first few holes. Pellot pulled herself together and made back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th and went on to finish the day at 4-over 75 to win by three shots over Smith.
Sabree Lefebvre got off to a hot start shooting one-over par on her first nine and moved up one spot on the leaderboard to finish in third place with a score of 79.
To cap off the weekend, congratulations to Ava Zeng on her fourth hole-in-one today on number seven!
