Quiri Captures State Amateur Championship

Brad Quiri fired a 2-under par 70 in the final round of the 87th Florida State Amateur Championship to secure the title at The Club at TwinEagles in Naples on Sunday, June 20.

Quiri, 21, of Tampa, shot a 71-73-67-70 for a four-round total of 7-under par 281. Quiri was tied with RJ Nakashian going into the final round and went on top with birdies on holes 3, 6, and 8 on the front nine. On the back nine, Quiri made bogey on holes 12 and 13 and found himself tied for the lead with Stefan Wistorf, of Bradenton, at 6-under. On the 17th hole, Quiri sank a 15 foot putt for birdie while Wistorf made bogey. Quiri then made par on the 18th hole to secure the Championship. Quiri, a senior-to-be at the University of South Florida, is playing in his first State Amateur Championship after failing to qualify the last three years. This year, Quiri was the medalist in qualifying at Lake Jovita Country Club in Tampa and he “knew he could do it.” Quiri said, “I’ve been playing really well and I came here to win.”

Joe Lamielle, of Sarasota, jumped into a tie for second place after shooting a 68 in the final round. Lamielle, a junior at Florida Gulf Coast University, recorded a 71-69-75-68—283. Also finishing the Championship at 283 was the second round leader, Jack Lander, of Juno Beach, who had scores of 70-67-75-71. Wistorf went on to bogey the18th hole for an even par 72 and finish at 284 tying with the first round leader, Peter Dachisen, of Wesley Chapel, who shot the low round of the final day, 67. The third round co-leader, RJ Nakashian, of Palm Beach Gardens, shot a 74 in the final round to fall to sixth place with a 285.

Quiri received a crystal vase and his name inscribed on the Clarence Camp Championship Trophy. The top ten plus ties receive an exemption into next year’s Florida State Amateur Championship.

Competitors played 18 holes each at The Club at TwinEagles and Bonita Bay East Cypress courses in Naples on June 17-18.
