 Two Teams Victorious

The duo of Michael Cox and Jacques Legere overcame a five stroke deficit to capture first place in the Senior division! Cox, of Naples, and Legere, of Fort Myers, did not have to travel far to seize their victory at Eagle Creek Golf & Country Club. After an impressive first round of 63, Bill Moore and Kevin Macy had the early lead by four strokes. Heading into the final round, Fred Stones/Walter Himelsbaugh were in second place with a first round 67 and three teams were tied for third with a 68, including Cox and Legere. The Tampa natives, Moore and Macy fell from first place with a second round of even par and a 135 (-9) total. Meanwhile, Cox and Legere played hard to post the same score that lead the tournament after round one, a 63, for a tournament total 131 (-13). Four strokes back, tied for second, finished Fred Stones/Walter Himelsbaugh and Bill Moore/Kevin Macy. 2015 Senior Four-Ball Champions, Owen Joyner and Rokki Rogan, finished in fifth place (138), one stroke behind Rick Woulfe and Peter Wegmann in fourth place. Cox and Legere earned their first FSGA Championship victory!

A wire-to-wire win was achieved by Robert Lundquist, of Sanford, and Kim Schwencke, of Tampa, in the Super-Senior division. After a great first round of 67, Schwencke and Lunquist continued to play one stroke better in the final round for a 133 (-11) tournament total. The team of Brian Sachs and Jim Carley finished four strokes behind in second place after consistent rounds of 68-69 for a 137 (-7) total. Gene Ryzewicz and Thomas Medlin tied 2015 Super-Senior Four-Ball Champions, Randy Briggs and Berger Warner, for third place with a 138 (-6) tournament total. After both earning wins on the Winter Series, this is the first FSGA Championship win for Lundquist and Schwencke!

Tournament Results

The Senior Four-Ball is a perfect opportunity for a golfing road trip with a buddy. Two days of four-ball flighted after day one, make for an enjoyable and competitive golfing environment. The Championship has two divisions: Senior and Super-Senior. To play in the Super-Senior Division, both players need to be 65 years old as of the first day of the Championship. 

Championship Format

  • 48 teams; 96 players
  • 36 holes of four-ball stroke play

What is a Four-Ball? - A four-ball is a two person team where the low score of the two players on each hole is counted. It is commonly referred to as a best-ball.

Eligibility

  • Male amateurs must be age 55 or older as of September 27, 2016, and both entrants must be members of the FSGA.

Entry Fee

  • $320 per team GHIN Members or Foundation Member
  • $340 per team Non-GHIN Members

Late entries will be accepted subject to a $10 late entry fee should the entrant gain acceptance into the field

Entry Priority

Entries will be accepted based upon the order of receipt. Entries received after the competitive field is full or after the close of entries, will be placed on an alternates list. Alternates will be contacted in the order of receipt of entry, if and when, a spot becomes available.

Divisions

  • 55-64 - Senior
  • 65 and over - Super-Senior
  • All teams will compete in the age division commensurate with the youngest player's age as of the first day of the Championship.

Course Set-Up

The golf course will be set-up at approximately

  • 6,400-6,500 yards - Senior
  • 6,100-6,200 yards - Super Senior

Practice Rounds

Practice rounds are available one week prior to the Championship and restricted to after 12:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday. The price for a practice round is $35.00 + tax. Please call (239) 793-0500 to arrange your practice round. The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range, hitting multiple shots on the course is unacceptable.

Defending Champions

Owen Joyner and Rokki Rogan went wire-to-wire to be named Champions with a second round five-under par, 67. Joyner and Rogan played steady golf during the second round with two birdies on the front-nine and three birdies on their final nine holes. The duo celebrated their first FSGA Championship victory together with a four-stroke win. 

In the Super-Senior Division, Randy Briggs and Berger Warner separated themselves from the rest of the pack within the first three holes during round two. The team birdied holes one through three, seven and eight on the front-nine for a 31. Staying steady on the back-nine, Briggs and Warner captured first place with a final round 67, tournament total 137. 

Carts

Carts are included for all competitive rounds. Players are responsible for practice round fees.

Scorecards

Only one of the partners per team need sign the score card and each score to count must be individually identifiable.  See Rule 31-3.
