2016 - Annual Dinner

Overview

The Florida State Golf Association's 2016 Annual Dinner was held at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando, Florida on Friday, November 18th. Over 200 people attended the dinner including many of the year's champions, volunteers from around the state, board and staff members, and their families.

The dinner began with an entertaining video outlining the Florida State Golf Association's 2016 season. There were 40 state championships held throughout the year where hundreds of volunteers from around the state helped to make all of the events successful.

Mr. Steve Carter, the 2016-2017 Vice-President of the FSGA, and member of Deerwood Country Club, welcomes the guests and blesses the room before dinner is served.

Executive Director, Jim Demick, outlines the plans for the night ahead and then introduces a video highlighting the 2016 season.

This year, Tom Keedy and Judy Tickles received an award for their 20 years of volunteer service with the Florida State Golf Association.  They have been unbelievable assets to the FSGA, the game of golf and all events across the state.  Thank you so much for your dedication!

  • Graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Worked for IBM for 30 years and retired in 1996
  • Began volunteering in 2010
  • Officiated approximately 100 competitions
  • Tournament chairman at 30 events
  • Senior Rules Official for the FSGA



Jim Meyer - Course Rating Volunteer of the Year

 

  • Graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Accounting
  • Worked for John Deere
  • Part of a group responsible for establishing The John Deere Classic PGA Tour event
  • FSGA volunteer for 16 years
  • Course rating captain for Sarasota/Manatee counties
  • Completed 8 course ratings in 2016



Hall of Fame

Pete Dye - 2016 Hall of Fame Inductee

 

  • Born in Urbana, Ohio
  • Won 1958 Indiana State Amateur Championship
  • Played in 5 U.S. Amateur Championships as well as the 1957 U.S. Open Championship
  • Attended Purdue University to obtain a degree in Landscape Architecture
  • With Alice, designed their first nine hole golf course in 1961: El Dorado (Indianapolis)
  • First 18 hole design was created in 1962: Heather Hills (Indianapolis)
  • First acclaimed project started in 1963: Crooked Stick GC (Carmel, IN)
  • Now has 6 courses ranked in the top 100 in 2016
  • His courses have hosted numerous Major Championships, Ryder Cups and USGA Championships
  • Considered the father of modern golf course architecture

  • Born in Indianapolis, Indiana
  • 9 time Indiana State Amateur Champion
  • 3 time Florida State Amateur Champion
  • 2 time U.S. Senior Amateur Champion
  • Member of the 1970 Curtis Cup Team
  • Driving force golf courses including multiple women's tees
  • First woman President of the American Society of Golf Course Architects
  • First woman Independent Director for the PGA of America
  • Partnered with Pete on every project
