11th Florida Cup - North Team Preview

After dropping the last two Florida Cups, and now having the series tied at 5-5 entering the 11th Cup Matches, the North Team will be lead by captain Thad Hudgens, of Longwood. The 2014 FSGA Mid-Amatur Champion will be making his 4th Florida Cup Appearance. Team also features 2015 US Mid-Am runner-up Marc Dull and 2013 FSGA Senior Amateur Champion Doug LaCrosse.

David Anthony, Jacksonville (4th Appearance 8-1-0)

USGA Championships: 5

David finished T2 in the 2016 Senior Championship in April and posted a top 10 in the Mid-Senior Championship in August. David lists his top golf accomplishment as winning the FSGA Mid-Amateur at the age of 51. David is a strong match play player boasting an 8-1-0 record in the Florida Cup Matches and a 5-3-2 record representing Team Florida in the Southeastern Challenge Matches.

Bob’s top golf accomplishments include being part of the victorious 2015 Southeastern Challenge Team representing Team Florida. He advanced to match play at the 2016 Mid-Amateur falling in the Round of 32.

Marc was the runner-up at the 2015 US Mid-Amateur Championship. In 2016, he competed in three USGA Championships (Amateur, Mid-Amateur & State Team). He started his season in Florida finishing T7 at the Mid-Amateur Stroke Play Championship, made the cut at both the Amateur and Florida Open and opened his US Amateur performance with a 66 at Oakland Hills. He was a member of Team Florida at the USGA State Team along with Joe Alfieri and Jake Kevorkian, where they would finish 4th.

Matt qualified for both of the first two USGA Four-Ball Championships in 2015 & 2016, as well as qualifying for the 2016 US Amateur. In the 2016 FSGA Mid-Amateur, Matt advanced to the semifinals, falling 1-down to eventual champion, Chip Brooke. Matt’s top accomplishments include winning the 2015 Marion Masters and has captured 3 of the last four Bo Williams City Amateur Championships in Ocala (2013, 2014 & 2016).

Jamie has qualified for four of the last five US Mid-Amateur Championships. Jamie’s season saw him make the cut at the Amateur Championship, finish 3rd in the Mid-Senior Championship and qualify for the US Mid-Amateur and Florida Mid-Amateur Championships.

Thad finished T2 in the 2015 Mid-Amateur Stroke Play Championship. In 2016, Thad made the cut at the Amateur Championship, qualified for the Florida Open & Mid-Amateur Championships, and earned Co-Medalist Honors at the Amateur Match Play Championship before falling in the Round of 32. Thad’s previous accomplishments include winning the 2014 FSGA Mid-Amateur Championship with a “walk-off” Ace, finishing 3rd in the 2013 Florida Amateur and qualifying for the 1993 PGA Tour FedEx St. Jude Classic.

Chad posted top 10 finishes at both the Two-Man Shoot-Out and Mid-Amateur Four-Ball North with North Team Captain Thad Hudgens and finished T21 at the Mid-Senior Championship. His top golf accomplishments include qualifying for the 2014 US Mid-Amateur and guiding his son Chase to an opening 66 (-6) while caddying at the US Amateur Qualifier this summer.

In 2015, Brian qualified for the inaugural US Four-Ball Championship with North Team teammate Paul Royak.  Keenan also qualified for the Florida Open, Florida Senior Open & Mid-Amateur in 2015. 2016 saw Brian & Paul capture the FSGA Winter Series Four-Ball Event and Brian qualify for the Florida Senior Open Championship.

In 2016, Doug finished T7 in the Senior Amateur in April, advanced to the Round of 32 at the Senior Amateur Match Play in June, and made the cut at the Florida Senior Open in August. Doug won the 2001 Coleman Invitational at Seminole Golf Club and is a three-time FSGA Player of the Year (1994, 1996 & 2000)

Levy’s 2016 campaign saw him make the cut at the Senior Amateur, qualify for the Florida Open and Florida Senior Open, and finish 13th at the Mid-Senior Championship, playing in the second to last group on Sunday. Bob’s best finish at the Senior Championship was t5 in 2014.

 

 

 

Kevin Macy, Tampa (1st Appearance)


Macy qualified for the Senior Amateur & Florida Senior Open in both 2015 & 2016. He also saw match play births both seasons at the Senior Amateur Match Play Championship. Advancing to the quarterfinals in 2015 and Semifinals in 2016. Along with partner Bill Moore, his team lead the 2016 Senior Four-Ball through the first round before finishing t2.

Alan’s top golf accomplishments include playing in 4 US Amateurs, winning the Avila Invitational, finishing runner-up at the 2010 Mid-Senior Championship and winning the 1983 Coke National High School Championship.

Paul qualified for the inaugural US Four-Ball Championship in 2015 with North Team teammate Brian Keenan.  At the 2016 Mid-Amateur Championship he advanced to the Round of 16. Paul was a three-time All-American at the University of Tampa.

Michael made the cut at the 2016 Amateur Championship. In 2015, Michael earned the 7th seed at the US Mid-Amateur at Johns Island and won the Jacksonville Area Golf Association Amateur Match Play Championship.  He was also part of the victorious Florida Team at the 2013 Southeastern Challenge Matches.

Doug captured the Senior/Mid-Amateur Four-Ball with partner Jon Veneziano after the pair shot a final round 61 (-11) to open 2016. He would make the cut at the Senior Amateur in April, advance to the quarterfinals of the Senior Match Play, post a T7 finish at the Four-Ball Championship in July, and make the cut at both the Florida Senior Open & Mid-Senior Championships in August. Doug’s top golf accomplishments include competing in the 2012 US Senior Open where he was paired with Tom Watson & Fred Couples the first two rounds and representing Team Florida at the 2010 USGA State Team Championship where they finished 2nd.
