VERO BEACH, Fla. – After rain washed out the first round, four juniors raised the trophies at the Futures Championship on Sunday at Vero Beach Country Club. Darren Zhou captured the win the Boys (11-12) division and Marley Pedrique took home the victory in the Girls (11-12) division. Danilo Custer was victorious in the Boys (9-10) division, while Claire Yang earned the win in the Girls (9-10) division.
Boys (11-12)
Zhou fired an impressive 8-under 64 to take home the victory in the Boys (11-12) division. Beginning the day on the 10th hole, Zhou posted a bogey-free first nine with three birdies. He kept it going on the back side, birdieing four of his first five holes.
The Bradenton native added a birdie on the eighth to capture the three-shot victory with an 8-under 64. Christian Koehn took home a runner-up finish with a 5-under 67, while Nemo Tsai finished third at 4-under 68.
Girls (11-12)
For the second-straight year, Pedrique captured a win at the Futures Championship, finishing the day with a 1-under 71. She got the round started with a 2-under front side, birdieing the fifth and sixth. Her lone bogey of the day came on the 13th, while the West Palm Beach native posted a 1-under 71 to secure the two-shot victory.
Fernanda Carrion and Reilly Kirwin finished the day in a tie for second at 1-over 73, while Lilliana Ford and Esther Li both took a share of fourth at 2-over 74.
Boys (9-10)
Custer picked up the victory in the Boys (9-10) division, finishing the championship at 4-over 76. The North Palm Beach native started the day with a 1-over front nine. He finished with a 3-over back side to take home the two-shot win.
Caiden Westbroek finished second at 6-over 78, while Bobby Jones Potash took third at 7-over 79.
Girls (9-10)
Yang used an even-par 72 to capture the two-shot win in the Girls (9-10) division. After playing the first six holes at 1 over, Yang birdied two of the final three holes on the front side. She kept it rolling on the back side, adding back-to-back birdies on the 10th and 11th.
The Windermere native finished the day with an even-par 72 to capture the victory. Bryn Krosse finished third at 2-over 74, while Rain Jiang finished third at 7-over 79.
