Davis and Owen Win North
Judd Davis and Daniel Owen came back from four strokes down to win the Mid-Amateur Four-Ball North Championship at Haile Plantation Golf and Country Club in Gainesville on June 3-4.
Judd Davis and Daniel Owen overcame a four stroke deficit to win the Mid-Amateur Four-Ball North Championship by one stroke. Davis and Owen, the 1998 State Amateur Champion, shot a 66 in the first round as did five other teams to sit four back from the leaders going into the final round. In the second round, the pair fired a 65 to secure the title by one stroke over Rick Powers and Michael Sanderson. Powers, of Lutz, and Sanderson, from Homosassa, also shot 66 in the first round as well as the second round to move ahead for sole possession of second place with a 132 total. First round leaders, Matt Jozwiak, of Wesley Chapel, and Tim Hume, of Tampa, placed third after firing a 62 in the first round. Jozwiak and Hume then posted a 71 to fall to third place. The 2005 Four-Ball Champions, Steve Carter, of St. Augustine, and Andy Purnell, from Jacksonville, shared fourth place with Steve Albright, of Ocala, and Brent Dorman, from Ocala, each team recording a 134 total.
The Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championships are each 36 holes of four-ball stroke play. In four-ball stroke play, two competitors play as partners, each playing his own ball. The lower score of the partners is the score for the hole. The field is flighted after 18 holes. To be eligible, players must be 25 years of age or older and members of the FSGA.
