Golden Eagle Wins Northwest Club Challenge

Golden Eagle Golf and Country Club won their second Northwest Club Challenge title as Shalimar Pointe Country Club captured the Senior division at Windswept Dunes Golf Club in Freeport on October 21-22.

In the regular division, Golden Eagle Golf and Country Club, located in Tallahassee, secured the division with a team total of 312. Playing 36 holes of stableford scoring, team members Tom Perrin, Van Champion, Robert Gaff and Allen Ross posted a 155-157 to edge out the field by three points. Gaff and Ross were members of the Golden Eagle team who won the 2004 Northwest Club Challenge. Teams from Panama Country Club placed second and third in this State Championship.

Shalimar Pointe Country Club won the senior division with a total of 302 points. Rusty Napier, Fred Gross, Jim Szabo and Walt Ebbert contributed with totals of 152-150. Bluewater Bay Resort posted a 295 total for second place while defending champion Santa Rosa Golf and Beach Club placed third in the senior division.

Teams of four representing their club will compete in 36 holes of stroke play, the total 3 of 4 scores will count for each round. This Championship is open to clubs all across the state. Windswept Dunes designer Doug O’Rourke built the course with miles of spectacular white sand dunes, large rolling fairways, artful bunkering and immaculate conditioning.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to traditional golf clubs located in Florida. The four team members must each be members of the club (traditional dues-paying golf membership).

ENTRY FEE

$330 per team ($320 for online entry).

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT

36 holes stroke play stableford scoring. Total of the high 3 point totals of the 4 scores each round.

FLIGHTS

After 18 holes. The number of flights in each age division will be based on the number of competitors and/or the range of scores.

DIVISIONS

Regular and Senior Division (Senior Division ages 55 and above as of October 21,2006). All team members must be 55 and older to compete in Senior division.

CARTS

Players are responsible for cart fees for all practice rounds.

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS

Capital City Country Club won the regular division shooting 231-232--463 as Santa Rosa Golf and Beach Club captured the senior division with scores of 238-249--487 at Camp Creek Golf Club.

DEADLINE

Each club can send as many teams as it prefers. Prior to September 14, only two teams per club will be entered into the field (in order of receipt). If the field is not full as of September 14 additional teams will be added on a first-come basis.

Clubs may, through their golf professional, reserve a spot (with a fully-paid entry) without team members names, prior to the closing date. Players must be verified upon close of entries.
