NAPLES, Fla. – Watersound Club raised the trophy on Wednesday at the 2023 Women’s Interclub Championship at TPC Treviso Bay. The Panhandle club picked up the victory by 12 points, finishing the week with 194 points, to earn the Women’s Interclub title.
In the State Championship, the three lowest individual net scores (highest net stableford points) per team count towards the team total.
Watersound began the championship with 90 points in the first round to sit eight points back fo the first-round leaders, Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. Meribeth Brashier and Shelly Bowden led the way for the Watersound, earning 31 points on Tuesday.
Beginning the final round in third place, Watersound put up 104 points in the final round to secure the victory. Bowden contributed 36 points for Watersound, posting a net eagle in the final round. Brashier and Deanna Woods were not far behind, posting 34 points each for the team.
Ocala Golf Club took home a runner-up finish with 182 points. The Ocala team picked up 99 points in the final round to take second place. Susan Ishii led the way for the team in the final round, carding 37 points for the day.
The 2023 Women’s Interclub season began in January with 112 clubs competing in a six-week regular season. Thirty-two teams battled it out in the Regional playoffs in March, with 13 Regional champions being crowned.
