Kumar & Stone Victorious at FJT Cypress Creek
The Florida Junior Tour 13-15 year old division headed south to The Golf Club at Cypress Creek in Ruskin, FL this weekend.
In the Girls Division, Morgan Baxendale, of Windermere, coming off of three straight wins, and Latanna Stone, of Ruskin, an eight time FJT Champion, both opened with five-over par 77s. Mimi Chen, of Longwood, opened with a 79, to sit two strokes behind to round out the final group during Sunday's round.
In Round Two, with a few of the tees moved up, Stone used some local knowledge to help her birdie 2, 8, 13 & 15 en route to a second round 73, for a two-round total of eight-over par 150 and a five stroke victory (77-73--150). Morgan Baxendale took home the second place hardware, with a final round 78 (77-78--155), while Alyssa Lamoureux, of Seminole, finished in third place (81-77--158). This was Stone's first victory of 2014, and ninth victory of her young career on the Florida Junior Tour. Stone is currently 12 years of age.
In the Boys Division, Robert Eisch, of Tampa, was the only player to break par in round one. A one-under par 71, would gave Eisch a one-stroke lead over Alberto Martinez, of Weston, and two stroke lead over Sachin Kumar, of Port Saint Lucie going into the final round.
However, round two belonged to Sachin Kumar. Kumar birdied holes 1, 7, 11, 12 & 14 and had only one blemish on 13 en route to a four-under par 68, good enough for a five stroke victory (73-68--141). Overnight leader Robert Eisch, finished at 146 total to claim second place honors (71-75--146). Alberto Martinez (72-75--147) & Anton Serafini, of Lake Mary (72-75--147) shared third place.
The next event for 13-15 year old division is at Sandridge Golf Club in Vero Beach on April 12-13.
