North Champions Crowned
Curtis Madson and Doug Snoap won the Florida State Mid-Amateur Four-Ball North Championship at Amelia Island Plantation on June 4-5, 2005.
On Amelia Island’s Long Point Course, Curtis Madson, from Mount Dora, and Doug Snoap, of Apopka, jumped into front after firing a second round score of 7-under par 65. Madson, who has won four Senior Four-Ball titles, birdied the last three holes to clinch the North Championship by two strokes. The team posted a 67 in the first round for a 132 two-round total. Four teams recorded a 134 including first round leaders AJ Kroeger, from Apopka, and Walter Himelsbaugh, of Leesburg, who carded a 63-71. Michael Abrams, of St. Petersburg, and Michael Gilbourne, from Neptune Beach, shot a 7-under par 65 in the second round to also take a share of second place. The St. Augustine team of Clayton Brewer and Chris Fierbaugh carded a 68-66 as John Eller, of Jacksonville, and Kevin Flanigan, of Jacksonville Beach, posted identical scores for a 134 two-round total.
The Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championships are each 36 holes of four-ball stroke play. In four-ball stroke play, two competitors play as partners, each playing his own ball. The lower score of the partners is the score for the hole. The field is flighted after 18 holes. To be eligible, players must be 25 years of age or older and members of the FSGA.
