PALM HARBOR, Fla. – Marsh Creek Country Club raised the trophy on Wednesday at the 2023 Men’s Interclub Championship. The Saint Augustine club picked up the win at Innisbrook Resort by just four points, finishing the week with 383 points, to earn its first Interclub title.

In the State Championship, the six lowest individual net scores (highest net stableford points) per team count towards the team total.

Marsh Creek began the championship with 188 points in the first round, to sit six points behind the first-round leaders, Tampa Bay Golf & Country Club and Orange Tree Golf Club. Greg Bland led the way for the Marsh Creek, earning 35 points on Tuesday.

Playing the final round on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook, Marsh Creek put up 195 points in the final round to secure the come from behind victory. Jerry Dedge contributed 41 points for the team, finishing the day with a birdie and two net eagles. Josh Jimmerson was not far behind, posting 34 points for Marsh Creek

Dubsdread Golf Club took home a runner-up finish with 381 points. Starting the day with one shot back of the lead, Dubsdread picked up 186 points in the final round to take second place. Tampa Bay, who held a share of the first-round lead, used 181 points in the final round to finish third.

The 2023 Interclub season began in January with 204 clubs competing in a six-week regular season. Fifty-two teams battled it out in the Regional playoffs in March, with 13 Regional champions being crowned.

Entries are for the 2023 Interclub regular season. The Championship will be held at Innisbrook Resort. Your confirmation email will state that you registered for the Championship at Innisbrook, please disregard that note. 

The FSGA Interclub includes a regular season where teams of eight (8) men compete as individuals, and as best-ball partners over a six-week regular season. Each club can have an unlimited number of golfers on it's team roster, and each week eight (8) players are selected by the team's captain(s) to play in that week's matches. The regular season is followed by two rounds of playoffs, and a State Championship. The 2023 Championship will be conducted on April 18-19 at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor. The Interclub Matches are a state-wide competition between clubs and more than 150 clubs compete.

Regular Season

  • Entry Fee $150 per team for the duration of the regular season & playoffs.  
  • For regular season and playoff matches, there are no green fees, but clubs often charge a "typical" cart fee. 
  • Teams advancing to the final championship pay an additional championship entry fee of $100 per player (See what's included under championship fee below)

Handicap

  • Each player must have an FSGA issued index no higher than 18.4
  • All players will play to the WHS Low Index updated Jan 1st

Eligibility

  • Club must be an FSGA-GHIN member
  • Players are not required to be individual members of the FSGA (but we encourage your support and hope that you will join)

Championship Format

  • 36-holes of net stableford stroke play - highest team stableford point total wins
    • Net stableford points: double eagle - 5 points, eagle - 4 points, birdie - 3 points, par - 2 points, bogey - 1 point, double bogey or higher - 0 points
  • 8 players per-team compete in each round of the Championship. 
  • 6 best scores from each team count each day
  • Teams that win their Region advance to the Championship
  • The same or different players can play in each round allowing teams to bring up to 16 players from their roster.
  • All players will play to their WHS Low Index.

Wednesday, April 19th

  • 8:00 AM - Final round shotgun start - Copperhead Course
  • Awards ceremony immediately following the completion of play

Practice Round and Practice Facility Information

Practice rounds available one week prior to the event on a space available basis after 12:00 Noon at the rate of $85 plus tax. Innisbrook Resort accepts cash, Visa and MasterCard. Please call (727) 942-2000 to arrange your practice round.

  • Practice Round Times are guaranteed 10:30 AM - 2:00 PM on Monday, April 17th on the Island Course
  • Copperhead Course is closed on Monday, April 17th due to another event
  • Players may play Copperhead on Tuesday after Round 1 for the practice round rate.

Carts

Carts are included for all competitive rounds.  Players are responsible for practice round fees and caddie fees for the Championship.

Championship Fee and What's Included

There will be a $100 championship fee per-player for eight players.  Captains or Clubs will pay for the entire team entry. 

Teams bringing more than eight (8) players to the championship - For teams that bring more than eight (8) players, some team members will only play one round. Only eight players play each day, but you may substitute players for round two for no additional fee

Each Team will receive:. 

  • 2 rounds of golf for eight (8) players
  • Practice round access for $85 riding, with cart on Monday, April 17, 2023 on the Island Course.
    • Access also available after 12 Noon the week prior on a space available basis on both Copperhead & Island Course for $85 plus tax
    • Copperhead is closed on Monday, April 17th, but can be played after Round 1 on Island)
  • Practice facility use before rounds
  • Golf carts
