Reilly Prevails in Playoff at Lake Wales

Kevin Reilly prevailed in a playoff at the Florida Junior Tour’s (FJT) event at Lake Wales Country Club, in Lake Wales, April 13-14.

Kevin Reilly, of Oviedo, erased a four stroke deficit to earn his first victory of 2013 in a sudden death playoff. Reilly opened with a solid round of three-under par 69 to trail the first round leader Travis Trace, of Jacksonville. Trace fired the low round of the tournament with an impressive first round of seven-under par 65, which included seven birdies and no bogies. Reilly continued where he left off in the first round posting two-under par 34 on the front nine, and would add two more birdies and a bogey to post 69 for a tournament total of six-under par 138 and find himself tied with Ethan Wagner, of Port Orange. Wagner fired a first round of two-under par 70 to put himself in position entering the final round. Wagner came out hot on Sunday posting 32 on the front nine, and after birdies on 10 and 15, Wagner was six-under for the day standing on the 18th tee. But a costly double bogey would doom Wagner and force him into a playoff with Reilly.

The pair would head for a sudden death playoff on the 18th hole. After a perfect drive, Reilly hit his approach shot to 15 feet above the hole for a great look at birdie. Wagner found the trees off the tee and played a skillful second shot through the trees to come up just short of the green. After his pitch shot ended up six feet shot of the hole, Reilly had a putt to claim the title. Reilly drained the 15 foot birdie putt to win in dramatic fashion. Henry Westmoreland, of Wacissa, finished alone in third place after rounds of 70-69 just one stroke shy of the playoff.
