Evan Byrd Wins Boys 13-15 Division

Ashley Holder Wins Girls 13-18 Division

Evan Byrd and Ashley Holder captured their division titles in the Junior Match Play Championship at Sandridge Golf Club in Vero Beach. The event was held July 29 - August 1.

Eighth seed Evan Byrd, of Ocala, won the Boys 13-15 age division Championship Bracket after beating Ethan Wagner, of Port Orange, in 19 holes to win the Championship. In route to the finals Byrd defeated, Nicholas Cammarene, of Vero Beach 2 and 1, Matthew Plunkett, of Saint Augustine, in 19 holes, and Jake Leffew, of Vero Beach 2 up. This is Byrd’s second State Championship after winning the 2009 Boys Junior Championship.

In the Boys 13-15 Byron Nelson Bracket, Bradley Wonka, of Vero Beach, defeated Alex Rios, from Coral Springs, 4 and 3 for the bracket title. In route to the finals Wonka defeated David Gates, of Miami 2 and 1, Kerry Sweeny, of Melbourne 3 and 2 and Nicholas Alvarez, of Davie, 5 and 4. 

Ashley Holder, of Orlando, won the Girls 13-18 age division Championship Bracket after beating Madison Lellyo, of Windermere, 2 up in the final. In route to the finals Holder earned a bye in the first round after carding a two-over par 74 in the seeding round to earn the second seed in the bracket. Holder then defeated Jasmine Wade, of Oldsmar, 6 and 5, and Shane Crutchfield, of Saint Petersburg 7 and 5.

Sandridge Golf Club offers two 18 hole championship layouts designed by Ron Garl. Opened in 1987, the Dunes Course winds around an old ridge once used for mining operations and features an island green and rolling hills. Sandridge Golf Club has been rated four-and-a-half stars by Golf Digest for the fourth year in a row on their annual "Places to Play" listing.

ELIGIBILITY

Male and female amateur golfers ages 13-18 as of August 1, 2010.

ENTRY FEE

$110 ($120 - players who do not have an active FSGA/GHIN Handicap).

SEEDING AND CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT  

Thursday

18-hole seeding round. All players must return an 18-hole score. Players will be placed in brackets and seeded based on their seeding round score.

Championship bracket - Low 16 scores (13-15) Boys Division from the seeding round. A playoff will be held immediately after the seeding round to determine the low 16 players if necessary in the Boys 13-15 division only.  All ties for bracket determination (except Championship bracket) will be broken according to the USGA "matching scorecards" procedure as described in Appendix I of the Rules of Golf. All ties for seeds within brackets will be determined randomly.

Friday

All players play a match in the morning. Winners of the first round of matches will play the second round of matches that afternoon. Afternoon starting times will be posted on the scoreboard. Players will have at least 30 minutes between their first and second round matches.

Saturday

All remaining players play their third round of matches in the morning @ 7:30. Remaining players in the Boys 13-15 Championship bracket will play their fourth round of matches in the afternoon. Afternoon starting times will be posted on the scoreboard. Players will have approximately 30 minutes between their first and second round matches.

Sunday

Final round of matches for Boys 13-15 and Girls 13-18 @ 7:30 All matches will begin in the morning and will be 18-hole matches to determine the Champions.

Scheduling of matches may be adjusted due to weather and field sizes.

BRACKETS 

Boys 13-15 - Championship bracket of 16 and one bracket of 16

Girls 13-18 - Championship bracket of 16. Flight sizes may be adjusted to accommodate entries

DIVISIONS  

All players must compete in the age division commensurate with their age as of the last day of the Championship. No players are allowed to play out of their age division.

PRACTICE ROUNDS

Practice rounds are available one week prior to the championship.  Practice rounds may be played after 12:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday.  The price for your practice round is $25.00 + tax before 12 PM and $14.50 after 12 PM.  Please call (772) 770-5000 to arrange your practice round.  The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range, hitting multiple shots on the course is unacceptable.

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS

Ian Facey, of Miami, captured the Boys 13-15 age division and Kristine Odaiyar, of Ocala, claimed the Girls 13-18 age division.

SPECTATORS AND CADDIES

Spectators are always welcome at FSGA Championships. Spectators are allowed to ride and the cost of a spectator cart is $20 plus tax.  Players are not allowed to employ a caddie.  Click here for spectator policies.

The FSGA Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions, provisions and/or schedules.  The decision of the Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee in any matter will be final.
