DORAL - With the threat of Tropical Storm Alberto looming, the players remained unfazed as they challenged mother nature. The players weathered wet and windy conditions to prove mother nature wrong. After a long and tough 54-hole competition, three competitors find themselves victorious against Tropical Storm Alberto and fellow competitors.
Boys' 16-18 Division
Amidst the tropical storm during the first round, Jude Kim and Tianyu Wu led the pack as they fired impressive rounds of even par 71 on the Golden Palm course with seven players two strokes back of the leaders. Brett Schell came back with a impressive one-under par 70 in the second round to come up as co-leader along with Blake Wheeler and Brett Roberts, all three at three-over par, 145. Tyler Wilkes and Kim had fallen just one shot behind the leaders but that all changed come Monday. With heavy winds howling on the infamous Blue Monster, Luke Gifford carded the low score of the third round with a two under par 70 but that was not enough to catch up to Kim. In exciting fashion, Kim fired an even par round 72, to capture the victory by one stroke over Wilkes' round of 73. Kim totaled 218 (+4) to earn his first FJT win.
Girls' 16-18 Division
In the downpour of the first round, Taylor Roberts shot a two over par round 74 to lead the girls with only two players within two strokes of the lead. Jillian Bourdage came back in round two with a low one under par 71 to take the lead from Roberts who then trailed by three strokes. In the final round, Alexa Rivas shot the low round of the tournament with a score of three under par to finish in third place, but it was Roberts who came back with an even par round 72 to over come Bourdage and to claim her fifth FJT trophy. Roberts totaled 221 (+5).
Girls' 13-15 Division
After the tough conditions of the first round, Skylee Shin found herself with a commanding seven stroke lead after firing a one over par 73. She extended her lead after the second round to thirteen strokes with a two over round 74. Her consistent play of two over par (74) in the final round extended her winning gap to fourteen strokes over second place finisher, Ellen Dong. Third placed was nabbed by Helena Noel. Shin finished with a score of 221 (+5) to capture her first FJT win.
