Wards Defend Their State Parent-Child Title
John and Johnny Ward shot 68-68--136 to defend their Florida State Parent-Child Championship by two shots at the Bonnet Creek complex at Walt Disney World. The victory was their 5th in the last nine years.
Kerry Schwencke, West Palm Beach, and John Schwencke, Boca Raton, shot 70-68--138 to finish in second place, while Lakeland’s Tom and Matthew Lyons finish in third with a 72-67--139.
The championship was a modified alternate shot. Players hit their tee shot. Players then exchange and hit the other team member’s ball. The team would then have to decide which ball to play. Once the decision is made, they alternate shots until the ball is in the hole.
In the 12 and under junior division played at Disney’s Old Trail course, Randy and Camden Parks of Longwood accumulated 56 Stableford points to win by three points. Craig and Brant DeLongy, Winter Park, and Greg and Kyle Martin, Plant City, came in second with 53 points each.
The junior division used the Stableford points method where points are awarded in relation to par.
