Esteve & Hudgens Win North Championship

Jeronimo Esteve and Thad Hudgens went wire-to-wire to win the Mid-Amateur Four-Ball North Championship at Gainesville Country Club in Gainesville, as Stephen Anderson and Jon Veneziano captured the South Championship at Mayacoo Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, on June 2-3.

Jeronimo Esteve and Thad Hudgens posted a tournament total of 12 under par 132 to win the North Championship. The pair carded an impressive first round score of 8-under par 64, which included six birdies and an eagle, to lead by two strokes heading into the final round. In the final round, the duo would post a round of four-under par 68 to claim the Championship by two strokes. Tori Carli and Derek Camps finished alone in second place firing rounds of 66-68 for a tournament total of 10-under par 134. The shot of the tournament went to Steve Carter, of Saint Augustine, who made a hole-in-one on the par 3 fourth hole.

Established in 1921, Gainesville Country Club features a classic Florida layout.  Originally designed by George Cobb (who designed the par-three course at Augusta National), the course's green complexes were renovated in 1994 by Mark McCumber, who maintained the course's classic architectural design. Gainesville Country Club sits on a hill overlooking the scenic Payne's Prairie State Preserve and the course features rolling fairways and massive pine and oak trees.

Eligibility

Male amateurs must be age 25 or older as of June 2, 2012. Both entrants must also be members of the FSGA.

Entry Fee

$320 ($340 - members who do not have an active FSGA/GHIN Handicap).

Championship

36 holes of four-ball stroke play.  The lowest team score for 36 holes will be the Champion. If necessary, there will be a hole by hole play-off to determine the Champion. It is the player's responsibility to be present for any play-off.

Championship Field Size

52 teams; 104 players

Course Set-Up

The golf course will be set-up approximately 6,900 yards.

Flights

After 18 holes. The number of flights will be based on the number of teams and the range of scores.

Tee Times

Round one and two tee times will begin at 8:00 AM off the 1st and 10th tees.

Practice Rounds

Practice rounds are available one week prior to the championship.  Practice rounds may be played after 12:00 PM on the weekend.  The price for a practice round is $30.00 + tax.  Please call (352) 372-1458  to arrange your practice round. The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range, hitting multiple shots on the course is unacceptable.

Carts

Carts are included for all competitive rounds. Players are responsible for practice round fees.

Brian Keenan and Paul Royak won on the first play-off hole shooting an overall 62-66--128 at Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club.

Scorecards

Only one of the partners per team need sign the score card and each score to count must be individually identifiable.  See Rule 31-3.

Spectators and Caddies

Spectators and caddies are always welcome at FSGA Championships. Only players are allowed to ride in carts.  If a player employs a caddie, the caddie MUST walk and the player's clubs must remain on the golf cart.

Conditions; Schedules

The FSGA Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions, provisions and/or schedules.  The decision of the Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee in any matter will be final.
