SARASOTA, Fla. - Qilin Yu and Hanana Kawada captured first time FJT wins in their first year playing on the tour at Sara Bay Country Club.
Boys 13-15
Qilin Yu, of Bradenton, proved he is a force to be reckoned with by winning his first ever FJT event by two strokes. Despite falling to two back-to-back double-bogies on his first nine, Yu finished round one trailing the lead by one stroke at even par. Sebastiano Mascia, of Orlando, carded two birdies on his first nine and finished with an eagle on the par five 17th hole to take the early lead at one under-par 71. Yu scored three birdies and two bogies in round two to climb up the leaderboard to hoist his first FJT trophy at one under-par 143. Jiakai Chen, of Lakewood Ranch, posted an eagle on the par five ninth hole to finish five strokes lower in round two. Chen secured second place by three strokes with a round two 70 and 145 total. Andrew McLauchlan and Maxmilian Jelinek tied for third place at 148.
Girls 13-15
Alyssa Fritz, Hanana Kawada, and Izzy Pellot battled for the outright win after the three tied for the lead with round one scores of 76. Despite Pellot’s birdie on the first hole of her second round, she struggled on the finishing holes to finish with a 77 and tied for second place finish at 153. Kawada turned at three over-par on day two but continued to play steady with one birdie and one bogey on her final nine to finish with a 75. Fritz fell to 17th after a second round 88 and 164 total. Kawada prevailed to win by two strokes at 151 for her first FJT victory! Addison Klonowski and Amelia Novoa tied Pellot in second place.
