Golden Eagle & Shalimar Pointe Defend Titles

Golden Eagle Golf and Country Club and Shalimar Pointe Country Club each defended their titles winning their respective divisions of the Northwest Club Challenge at Kelly Plantation Golf Club in Destin on September 15-16. 

Golden Eagle Golf and Country Club won back-to-back Championships capturing this year’s Regular division with 303 total points. The team from Tallahassee earned 147 points in the first round to trail the leading team by five points. In the final round, Golden Eagle secured 156 points to defend their title by one point. Team members Allen Ross, Robert Gaff and Tom Perrin were on last year’s winning team and this year added Jeff Corson to the roster. Playing their home course, Kelly Plantation finished just one point back from the leading team with a 302 total. Kelly Plantation recorded 152-150 points for the two rounds. Another Golden Eagle team took third place finishing with 300 points. With 147 in the first round, Golden Eagle “B” earned 153 points in the final round.

In the Senior division, Shalimar Pointe Country Club defended their title winning with 327 total points. With all team members returning from last year, Fred Gross, Jim Szabo, Rusty Napier and Walt Ebbert went on to post 160 points in the first round and 167 points in the final round to win by eight points. Buckhorn Springs Golf and Country Club, from Valrico, took second place securing a total of 319 points and Stonebrook Golf Club, in Pace, finished in third place with a 316 total.

Teams of four representing their club will compete in 36 holes of stroke play, the total 3 of 4 scores will count for each round. This Championship is open to clubs all across the state. Set along the Choctawhatchee Bay, this semi-private golf club features 18 captivating holes built on the former site of a turpentine plantation owned by Mattie and Coleman Kelly.  Designers Fred Couples and Gene Bates fashioned an impressive championship golf course from the intrinsic beauty of the land with miles of waterfront, intricate bayous and towering trees. 

ELIGIBILITY

Open to traditional golf clubs located in Florida. The four team members must each be members of the club (traditional dues-paying golf membership).

ENTRY FEE

$330 per team ($320 for online entry).

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT

36 holes stroke play stableford scoring. Total of the high 3 point totals of the 4 scores each round.

FLIGHTS

After 18 holes. The number of flights in each age division will be based on the number of competitors and/or the range of scores.

DIVISIONS

Regular and Senior Division (Senior Division ages 55 and above as of September 15, 2007). All team members must be 55 and older to compete in Senior division.

CARTS

Players are responsible for cart fees for all practice rounds.

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS

Golden Eagle Golf Country Club won the regular division shooting 155-157--312 as Shalimar Point Country Club captured the senior division with scores of 152-150--302 at Windswept Dunes Golf Club.

DEADLINE

Each club can send as many teams as it prefers. Clubs may, through their golf professional, reserve a spot (with a fully-paid entry) without team members names, prior to the closing date. Players must be verified upon close of entries.
