Wyndom Burnett & Gray Albright
Boy's Division
Red numbers filled the leaderboard as the Boy's Division at this weekends Florida Junior Tour event headed to Ocala Golf Club. With few chances for earning champion exemptions into this year's Tour Championship, the competition was stiff. After the first round, the leaderboard was tight as Nicholas Gabrelcik shot the low round of the afternoon with a five under-par, 67. Closely behind him though was Gray Albright and Jason Duff who posted 68 and 69, respectively. With the title up for grabs, Sunday morning's final round was a race to the top. After making the turn at two-under par, Nicholas increased his lead to two strokes with nine holes left to play. Gray Albright was sitting behind Gabrelcik after only managing to shoot one under-par on the front nine. However, it was Albright who lit up the back nine by shooting 32, four under-par. Albright's final round 67 would leave him in a tie at the top with Nicholas Gabrelcik who finished up with a four under-par round of 68. Both their impressive tournament totals of 135 meant they were headed back on the course for yet another playoff to determine the champion. After the first playoff hole, Gray Albright's par would be enough to defeat Nicholas Gabrelcik and win the Florida Junior Tour event at Ocala Golf Club. This is Albright's first FJT victory of his career and now will earn an automatic exemption into this year's Tour Championship.
Girl's Division
In the Girl's Division, there was no lack of excitement as the leaderboard was just as jumbled up as the boy's. After the first round Saturday, it was Wyndom Burnett, of Citrus Springs, who sat in the top spot on the leaderboard after firing a three under-par, first round of 69. Behind Burnett was Chloe Schiavone, of Jacksonville, who shot one under-par to claim solo second heading into the final round. The final round was a battle between Burnett & Schiavone as they were neck and neck for the entire round. For a majority of the final round Sunday morning, the two girls were tied. Yet, on the final hole of the final round, Wyndom Burnett pulled away from Chloe Schiavone to shoot a final round of 75 and win her first Florida Junior Tour event! Chloe Schiavone shot a two over-par, 74 to finish the tournament at 145, one stroke behind Burnett. The low round Sunday was a one under-par round of 71 from both Jacqueline Putrino and Tori Bien.
