Mid-Am Four-Ball Championships Completed
The Florida State Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championship finished this past weekend with a North and South Champion. The North Championship was won by Steve Carter and Andy Purnell at Victoria Hills Golf Club in DeLand.
Carter, of St. Augustine, and Purnell, of Jacksonville, won the North Championship in a playoff over Bret Bush, of Palm Beach Gardens, and Bret Voisin, of Orlando. Carter and Purnell carded a 65-70 as Bush and Voisin finished with a 66-69 to both score a 135 two-day total. David Boesel and Jim Byington, of Winter Park, scored a 68 on both days to finish one stroke behind the leaders.
The Mid-Amateur Four-Ball North Championship consisted of 52 teams while the South was made up of 54 teams. Competitors played 36 holes of four-ball stroke play in the two-day event.
Organized in 1913, the Florida State Golf Association is a not-for-profit organization that governs amateur golf in the state of Florida. In addition to conducting 20 championships for amateur golfers in the state, the FSGA is responsible for 39 qualifying tournaments for USGA National Championships. The FSGA also maintains the USGA Handicap System, performs course ratings throughout Florida and assists in junior programs and scholarships.
