Woulfe Wins Mid-Senior Championship

Rick Woulfe captured his fourth State Championship this year winning the Florida State Mid-Senior Championship at Amelia Island Plantation on August 17-19. 

Rick Woulfe, of Fort Lauderdale, went wire-to-wire to win the 2007 Mid-Senior Championship with a tournament total of 1-under par 215. After two rounds of shooting 70, Rick Woulfe had a commanding six stroke lead heading into the final round of play. Woulfe posted a 75 in the final round on the Long Point Course to hold on to the lead and capture his third individual title this season. In addition to winning the Senior Amateur and Senior Amateur Match Play Championship this year, Woulfe partnered with Frank Strafaci, of Davie, to defend their Mid-Amateur Four-Ball South title earlier this season. Overall, this win is Woulfe’s ninth State Championship. Felix Bertucci, of Gulfport, placed second six strokes back from Woulfe. With rounds of 75-74-72, Bertucci finished with a tournament total of 221. Four competitors shared third place including David Sutton, of Maitland, who fired a 69 in the final round, the low round of the tournament. Sutton along with Ken Moody, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Maxie Cupit, of Jacksonville, and Doug Snoap, of Apopka, shared third place with a 224 total.

Amelia Island boasts 72 holes of championship golf including Oak Marsh and Ocean Links designed by Pete Dye and Bobby Weed, and the Long Point Course, Tom Fazio's creation, that sit along the Atlantic Ocean.

ELIGIBILITY

Must be age 40 or older as of August 17, 2007, and be a member of the FSGA.

ENTRY FEE

$190 ($200 - members who do not have an active FSGA/GHIN Handicap).

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT

54 holes of stroke play, cut to low 70 plus ties after 36 holes.

COURSES

Long Point and Oak Marsh on Friday and Saturday, Long Point on Sunday.

CARTS

Players are responsible for practice round cart fees.

DEFENDING CHAMPION

Paul Melson, of Plantation, won his second Mid-Senior Championship shooting 67-74-67—208.
